CAN YOU DIG IT?!!! La-La Land Records, Universal Music and Paramount Pictures are proud to present the remastered and expanded soundtrack to the 1979 Paramount Pictures cult classic motion picture THE WARRIORS, starring Michael Beck, James Remar and Deborah Van Valkenburgh, and directed by Walter Hill. The original A&M album presentation has been remastered, with songs from Joe Walsh, Arnold McCuller, Desmond Child and others sounding better than ever. But to top even that, Barry DeVorzon's influential original film score finally makes its world premiere, nearly 35 years since the film's release (the two score tracks on the original '79 album were uniquely mixed for that release).

After the surprise success of 1962's Dr. No, the producers of the budding James Bond series began to establish what would become its trademark elements, with its debonair anti-hero frolicking libidinously through increasingly amped-up foreign intrigue and exotic locales. Musically, this soundtrack represents perhaps their most crucial decision: hiring band leader/budding composer John Barry as scorer. Abandoning the first film's calypso kitsch for an orchestra powered cocktail of elegance and jazzy sophistication, Barry immediately gave the Bond saga a focused musical language that would become arguably its most consistent element over the decades and amidst a revolving series of lead actors and increasingly improbable cinematic predicaments. While anchored by a medley that includes Monty Norman's "James Bond Theme," this soundtrack also introduced another longstanding Bond tradition, the pop-ballad title track/single, here penned by Lionel Bart and sung with urgent conviction by British crooner Matt Munro. This digitally remastered new edition features new liner notes, as well as artwork and stills from the film.

In 1970, Ashton, Gardner & Dyke somehow ended up supplying the soundtrack music to an obscure Western starring football star Joe Namath. Also important to the soundtrack's composition and performance was Deep Purple's Jon Lord, who co-wrote the score with Tony Ashton and shared keyboard parts with Ashton as well. Like many soundtracks, it's a jumble of pieces that might have served adequately as background music to specific scenes, but doesn't sustain much interest for a record listener. The musicians tap into a wide variety of styles and moods, mostly instrumental with occasional vocals, from good-time laid-back bar band boogie and dramatic pseudo-spaghetti Western orchestrations to atonal keyboard patterns, tedious hard rock-funk, and Latin cocktail jazz with bizarre scatting. The individual tracks, though, are neither too good on their own, or too similar to each other, failing to create an inviting mood.

Juliano Dornelles: "Each piece of music has its inherent logic. It can mark the start of a new chapter or foreshadow something very strange happening. We have a lot of original music, as well as songs that are part of Brazilian or international culture. The musicians, Mateus Alves and Tomaz Alves Souza are very talented brothers. They experimented with lots of different ideas before we selected the tracks that are in the film. The score was kept in quarantine for a long time. We tested it out in various ways. It's a good idea to think about the music at an early stage, when you're writing. It's dangerous not to give it time to filter through. That can result in regrets. We had songs in the script that didn't make it out of the editing room, for example."

Music icon David Byrne was inspired by tabloid headlines to make his sole foray into feature-film directing, an ode to the extraordinariness of ordinary American life and a distillation of what was in his own idiosyncratic mind. The Talking Heads front man plays a visitor to Virgil, Texas, who introduces us to the citizens of the town during preparations for its Celebration of Specialness. As shot by cinematographer Ed Lachman, Texas becomes a hyperrealistic late-capitalist landscape of endless vistas, shopping malls, and prefab metal buildings.
