Bari, 2010. È la vigilia di una torrida estate e pochi eventi italiani, tranne i vicini Mondiali di calcio, sembrano scuotere il ritmo levantino della città. Il sole è già alto quando due abitanti della Barivecchia si presentano in questura, con l'aria di essere uscite per la prima volta da quelle antiche mura. Lolita Lobosco, finiti i rituali del mattino - le spremute d'arancia e la vista del mare - arriva sul posto di lavoro come sempre di buon umore.
