On his landmark album, One On One, legendary trumpeter / flugelhorn player Clark Terry performs intimate duets with 14 of the world's greatest living pianists. Conceived as a "tribute" album of sorts, this recording spotlights the artistry of not only Terry but also the masters of 20th-century jazz piano and composition: each pianist performs an homage to his or her own jazz hero. The Multi-Channel version of the Chesky CD already considered a classic by many Jazz critics. This disc features a who's who roster of jazz pianists including John Lewis, Marian McPartland, Monty Alexander & Tommy Flanagan to name a few.

The two albums compiled on this single disc, Delbert & Glen from 1972 and Subject to Change from 1973, were both issued on Warner Bros. under the stewardship of Mo Ostin and Lenny Waronker, at that time easily the most adventurous and nurturing of all the major labels. Delbert McClinton and Glen Clark understood something about the amalgam of country and rock – as well as soul and blues – that eluded the Eagles entirely: that the roots of those musics were gritty, unpolished, immediate, and raucous. Therefore, in listening to these two long-lost gems, one feels as if the Faces were playing with Waylon Jennings and Booker T. & the MG's simultaneously. Fans of McClinton will no doubt hear the sheer raucous roots of his solo career in these sides – the first of which was produced in Hollywood by T-Bone Burnett, the second in Birmingham, AL, by Geoffrey Haslam.

With the remastered edition of Clark’s seminal 3rd album Body Riddle comes a compilation gathering rare and unreleased material from an incredibly fruitful period of his career. Featuring tracks from his 2006 EP Throttle Furniture, as well as several throttleclark com releases and songs resurfaced from the archives, 05-10 adds another angle to the story of what is considered one of the highlights in Clark’s discography.

Recording live at the Jazzhouse in Hamburg, Germany, Terry is spurred on by a world-class rhythm section that includes bassist Larry Gales of Thelonious Monk fame. Terry’s warm, personable tone, technical mastery and inventiveness sizzles throughout as he takes on an up-tempo Ellington “Perdido” and exhibits his famous “mumbles” scat singing style on “Jazzhouse Blues”. Wham! With quotes and asides galore, it’s a merry musical go ‘round.

Canadian singer Terri Clark is often compared to Shania Twain mainly because the two are Canadian, started around the same time, and began their careers in country music. But while Twain went on to uber status with a mainstream merging of country and pop and rock, Clark slowly built her career on Nashville's Music Row and its contemporary yet safe country sound. This collection featuring her better moments starts with "Better Things to Do," a standard country-pop tune that has the singer opening up vocally from the onset. The only thing that perhaps sets it apart is her ability to pull off the song effortlessly, as if she was born to do these songs. "When Boy Meets Girl" isn't all that different, although Clark carries it equally strong with the country-tinted Brooks & Dunn-like melody. Unfortunately, some of the tunes that are radio-friendly aren't always the greatest.

Michael Clark’s knowledge and reverence for Florence Price shines in WALTZES & CHARACTER PIECES OF FLORENCE PRICE. Opening with the first waltz in Price’s musical catalog, Valsette Mignon, and closing with one of her final waltzes, Waltzing on a Sunbeam, Clark’s respect and intimate understanding of these elegant piano works is evident in his delicate treatment of each passage down to the single note.

The soulful and elegant pianist Sonny Clark brings his A-game to My Conception, a program of all-Clark originals recorded in 1959 but not released until 1979. Joining the pianist are a cast of hard bop masters including Hank Mobley on tenor saxophone, Donald Byrd on trumpet, Paul Chambers on bass, and Art Blakey on drums. Highlights from this session include the lead-off track “Junka,” the fiery brilliance of “Minor Meeting,” and Hank Mobley’s sublime soloing on “Royal Flush.”
