Sky Dancing - Nada Masala Vol. 2 (2001). Sky Dancing - Nada Masala Vol. 2 is Dakini's second label compilation, the follow-up to Vol. 1, which has been the label's best-selling and most popular release so far. Vol. 1 quickly sold out its first and second pressings, and has now been re-released in the US and Europe on Milan Music/Universal, with an initial pressing of 20, 000 copies. Vol. 2 is eagerly anticipated. It has been one year in the making, and represents the cream of chilled electronica from around the globe (except Ibiza, thank you). No filler here. Every track is the best the artist can make, and the album is compiled to create a total trip through sound. Like the first comp., 'Sky Dancing 2' is a seductive collection of tribal beats, zen-dubs and ethereal grooves…
Dakini asked its favorite artists to create tracks for use by the innovative open-minded bellydancers of the Neo-Tribal underground. A dark, mysterious journey into an imaginary Orient, where the saz and the sequencer, the darbukka and the drum loop, are woven into an electric-acoustic mosaic of past and future.
Inspired by the fresh stylings of the tribal fusion bellydance scene, Dakini's 'Tribal Matrix' series offers tracks equally suited to dancers or Djs, exotic electronica that organically blends mid eastern rhythms and instruments with modern production and grooves.
Lumin is a band that fuses the strengths of three highly individual talents: vocalist Irina Mikhailova, formerly with organic trance act Medicine Drum and a solo artist in her own right, brings her classical training in opera and middle eastern vocals, a love of the folk and gypsy songs of Eastern Europe and her native Kazakhstan, and many a night spent at an outdoor dance gathering. Multi-instrumentalist and producer Jef Stott, currently signed to Six Degrees Records, brings a sensitive touch to the oud, saz, dulcimer, yali tambur, and other instruments of the mid-east, while also contributing with software, synths, and beat programming. Producer and remixer Michael Emenau (anoher Six Degrees artist) brings crisp production and a breakbeat sensibility to the music, working on the electronic arrangements to support the traditional melodies…
"Transmissions" integrates new material from the same artist that has two previous albums on Mahorka under the moniker Transcendent Device, but for this project it was decided for his real name to be used. Here Michael Todd has eschewed the dark ambient guitar sounds in favor of a minimalist synth drone approach. Like an electronic version of the Indian tambura these five cosmic drone meditations were crafted and arranged as album to silence one's mind and help reveal more of the listener's true nature to himself.
There should be a warning on the album cover "Do not operate heavy machinery or drive an automobile while listening to this CD." The very first sound is a splash, and believe me it's your consciousness taking a dive into the deep end. It's interesting the attention Charlie Roscoe (the brain behind Jairamji) gives to creating environments. On several of the tracks you'll hear birds, streams & waterfalls. These sounds gently enhance the aspect of "another time another space", which is essential for a nice variation of the chill. This album is a vacation for your mind. Everyone needs a way out from the daily grind, and Kindred Spirits is a four star vehicle…
