A new 2CD set of Elvis’ final studio recordings to be released in August. RCA Records and Legacy Recordings are to release Way Down In The Jungle Room, a new double CD (and 2LP vinyl) collection of Elvis Presley‘s last studio recordings. This comprehensive collection brings together, for the first time, master recordings and rare outtakes laid down during two sessions (February 2-8, 1976 and October 28-30, 1976) in Presley’s home studio in Graceland – known as the “Jungle Room”. The outtakes have been newly mixed (by engineer Matt Ross-Spang) at Sam Phillips Recording in Memphis, Tennessee.
Following the success of her "head-turning debut" with Orchid Classics in 2022, dynamic young violinist Coco Tomita returns with her new album "Echoes", reuniting with pianist Simon Callaghan in a reflective and intimate exploration of late 19th and 20th century repertoire. Coco first gained widespread recognition as winner of the 2020 BBC Young Musician Strings Category, an event which led to the recording of her debut album, "Origins", which garnered huge critical acclaim and was selected as one of Apple Music's Albums of the Month. She was named as 'One to watch' by Gramophone Magazine and 'Young Classical Star' by Classic FM, while elsewhere her rendition of Irving Berlin's "White Christmas" rapidly amassed over 2 million streams as part of Apple Music's Classical Christmas campaign in December 2022.
An ECM artist for his entire musical career, US guitarist Ralph Towner has built up a unique body of work in his recordings for the label. Central to his oeuvre are his solo albums, the first of which, Diary, was issued 50 years ago. At First Light extends this great tradition, drawing inspiration from a broad palette of music. “My solo recordings have always included my own compositions in which there are trace elements of the many composers and musicians that have attracted me,” writes Towner in a liner note, citing the influence of, among others, George Gershwin, John Coltrane, John Dowland and Bill Evans: “I feel that At First Light is a good example of shaping this expanse of influences into my personal music.” In addition to his own pieces, Towner also plays Hoagy Carmichael’s “Little Old Lady”, Jule Styne’s “Make Someone Happy” and the traditional tune “Danny Boy.” Recorded at Auditorio Stelio Molo RSI, Lugano, in February 2022, At First Light was produced by Manfred Eicher.
Johnny Cash's fourth project with producer Rick Rubin continues on the same path as many of their previous releases: Cash's warm and rumbling baritone over minimal production and gentle duets with some surprising guests. One of the things that sets American IV: The Man Comes Around apart from the others is Cash's song selections. The success he experienced with his previous interpretations of contemporary songwriters (Soundgarden's "Rusty Cage," Nick Cave's "The Mercy Seat") is applied to this album with varying degrees of success. His throaty reading of Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt" easily fits into his "Man in Black" persona, and the spiritual conviction underlying Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus" is certainly powerful.
