The fourth and final box in our monumental Doris Day retrospective. Here, on 8 CDs, is every song she recorded from 1960 to her last session for the label in November 1966. Nearly 200 songs, including some of her most popular and timeless albums such as 'Latin For Lovers', her 1964 Bossa Nova Collection and 'Doris Day's Sentimntal Journey' - her last Columbia album, which is a loving throwback to her musical roots in the big band Era. Also included is the 'Annie Get Your Gun' album with Robert Goulet and the title track to 'Move Over Darling' - a #8 in England in 1964.

This three-CD box set, in producer and then label Boss' weirdly wired brain, encompasses two different sides of Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Discs one and two represent sporadic live recordings of Kirk from 1962 to 1972, all of them previously unreleased and issued courtesy of a Kirk collector named George Bonafacio. These two discs contain Kirk classics such as "Domino," "Blacknuss," and an excerpt from "Three for the Festival," as well as singular Kirk interpretations of "I Say a Little Prayer," "Freddie Freeloader," "Lester Leaps In," "Giant Steps," "Sister Sadie," and more. These two discs are chock-full of stellar performances that are well-recorded despite being fan tapes. The musicians on these dates range from bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pederson to Hilton Ruiz, Jerome Cooper, Tete Montoliu, and many others…

This somewhat obscure session was reissued on LP by Columbia in 1980. Valve trombonist Bob Brookmeyer and tenor-great Stan Getz (who had played together regularly a decade prior) had a reunion for this date, performing five standards and three Brookmeyer originals. The young rhythm section (pianist Herbie Hancock, vibraphonist Gary Burton, bassist Ron Carter, and drummer Elvin Jones) uplifts what would have been a fairly conventional (although high quality) bop date.

Better make room on the bookshelf, baby, 'cause nearly all of these 160 tracks have never been on CD, and a bunch of 'em never even on vinyl! Here are the original film versions of such Sinatra standards as Night and Day; All or Nothing at All; Time After Time; New York, New York; On the Town; All of Me; From Here to Eternity; Three Coins in the Fountain; Someone to Watch over Me; and more, many (because of the film studios' recording innovations) in stereo for the first time. And the rarities are juicy-a 1947 radio interview for The Kissing Bandit ; 1951 promos/spots for Meet Danny Wilson ; a 1953 Sinatra/Donna Reed interview for From Here to Eternity ; Lucky Strike promo spots, and more! The packaging is of keepsake quality. Monumental!

Remarkably, whether he's playing an impressionistic ballad, a hard bop classic or a free original, Denny Zeitlin sounds like no other. He has the technique and harmonic knowledge to execute anything his fertile imagination conjures up. His music resonates with joy and honesty. Denny Zeitlin's first album, Cathexis, recorded in 1964 with Cecil McBee and Freddie Waits was an instant critical and commercial success with Zeitlin hailed as a new and original voice of the piano. Later in 1964, Denny assembled another amazing trio with Charlie Haden and Jerry Granelli and released the album Carnival. Zeitgeist was recorded over 1966 and '67 and documented the end of the trio with Haden and Granelli and the beginning of one with Joe Halpin and Oliver Johnson, two brilliant musicians who died young.

Bennett, whose recorded legacy has been gathered in a 76-disc boxed set titled The Compete Collection, has been doing that for over 60 years: saving our souls with the greatest songs ever written. The Complete box is an absolute necessity, first because it contains several previously unreleased albums, like On the Glory Road and From This Moment On, a live concert taped in Las Vegas that collectors have been salivating over since 1964.

Recorded in 1964, "Ella Fitzgerald Sings the Johnny Mercer Song Book" was recorded at Radio Recorders Studio 10-H in Los Angeles, California with Nelson Riddle and his Orchestra. The album was the only songbook collection Ella recorded that concentrates on the work of a lyricist instead of a composer. Riddle created wonderfully lush arrangements, and the album was Ella's fifth and final collaboration with the conductor and arranger during her years on the Verve label.
