The album delivers savage beatdowns equally designed to pulverize and mesmerize. 'It follows on from where 'Wrong One To Fuck With' (2017) left off', drummer Trey Williams promises. 'We don't need to participate in the technical death metal arms race. We've got the big guns, and we've proven that. It's all about pointing them in the right direction, so to speak'.

Exposing the trio’s love of all things retro with a nod to everything from Fun Boy Three to Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Contonou, while still roaming somewhere between an ambient Eno and Cocteau Twins at a late-night soiree. A unique, individual sound: Longer, more plush and pampered; more hypnotic and haunting, mixing mellotron and affected guitar with a refined rhythm. Electronic melancholy at its most evocative, riddled with super-memorable motifs and melodies that nestle in reflective echo.

“I feel complete but I don’t know yet,” goes the break on “More than Ever,” the second track on Said the Whale’s new album, As Long as Your Eyes Are Wide. It’s a perfect line that sums up the sunny but unflinching self-reflection that accompanies one’s late-20s/ early-30s. Those heavy meditations on what it means to be a grownup and the sensation of catching up with our parents, bosses, authority figures, and realizing that adulthood is nothing like what we imagined as kids.

Raven presents two landmark albums by legendary multi-instrumentalist, producer and solo artist Al Kooper. Few American musicians have pursued a more diverse or fascinating career than Kooper. As well as playing organ on Bob Dylan's timeless "Like a Rolling Stone", having formed Blood Sweat & Tears and produced Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kooper has issued a dozen solo albums. His 1968 debut I STAND ALONE incorporates pop and soul, jazz and classical elements, making for a seamless and enjoyable whole. As well as covers of "Hey, Western Union Man", "Coloured Rain," and "Blue Moon of Kentucky", Kooper excels with classy originals "I Can Love a Woman" and "Right Now for You". YOU NEVER KNOW WHO YOUR FRIENDS ARE (1969) ups the ante with the brassy "Magic in My Socks", the swooping, soulful "Loretta (Union Turnpike Eulogy)" and "I Don't Know Why I Love You". This top-value package of these two timeless albums comes complete with seven bonus tracks and showcases Kooper's incredible musicianship at its creative peak.

But the hits they did have all became funk anthems.

Liverpool Express was a successful pop/rock quartet that formed out of the remnants of Rockin' Horse, a short-lived early-'70s oldies-oriented band organized by '60s Liverpool music veterans Jimmy Campbell and Billy Kinsley. Kinsley restarted Rockin' Horse in 1975 with Tony Coates on guitar and vocals, Roger Scott Craig on keyboards, and Derek Cashin on drums, while Kinsley played bass. Signed to British Warner Bros., they had a slow start with the abortive debut single "Smile," but scored with their second record, "You Are My Love," which reached number 11. They became fixtures in the mid-level of the U.K. charts for more than five years, with the occasional run up to the Top Ten, and in later years Cashin was succeeded by Pete Kircher and Coates was replaced by Kenny Parry. Their history came to an end when Kinsley rejoined his '60s outfit the Merseybeats in the early '90s.
