Death Cab For Cutie Thank You For Today

"Thank You for Today" was produced and mixed by Rich Costey (Fiona Apple, Franz Ferdinand, Muse), who also produced the band's last album the GRAMMY® nominated "KINTSUGI." "Thank You for Today" marks the first Death Cab for Cutie release to see long time bandmates Gibbard, Nick Harmer, and Jason McGerr joined in the studio by new members Dave Depper (Menomena, Fruit Bats, Corin Tucker, Ray Lamontagne) and Zac Rae (My Brightest Diamond, Fiona Apple, Lana Del Rey, Gnarls Barkley). Depper and Rae have both been part of Death Cab's touring band since 2015.

Death Cab for Cutie will release their ninth album Thank You For Today via Atlantic this Friday, August 17— just one day before the 20th anniversary of their 1998 debut Something About Airplanes.

The Blue EP follows up Death Cab for Cutie's latest full length, Thank You For Today, which was released last summer and debuted as the #1 album on Billboard's Top Rock Albums and Alternative Charts, as well as the band's first #1 album on the Billboard Vinyl Charts. The band announced The Blue EP on July 30th with the release of 'Kids in '99', a song that recalls the Olympic Pipeline Explosion in 1999, an event that happened during one of their earliest rehearsals as a band in their hometown of Bellingham, WA. 'To The Ground' and 'Before The Bombs' were recorded during the album sessions for Thank You For Today and produced by Rich Costey. 'Kids In 99' and 'Blue Bloods' were produced by Peter Katis.

“Kids in ’99” is a tribute to the three children who died in 1999 from the Olympic Pipeline explosion in Bellingham, Washington. “The Olympic Pipeline explosion in 1999 was a tragedy that really affected me while we were living in Bellingham,” Benjamin Gibbard said in a statement. “After all these years I felt it was worthy of its own folk song.”
