Police Commissioner Norbert Wilms investigates an auto theft ring in Hamburg following the murder of an inspector. Meanwhile Katja, whose father Tessmann runs the car theft ring, gets a job at the local Rio Rita club. Suspecting that the club is a front for the ring, Commissioner Wilms investigates Katja, the "Girl with the Cat Eyes".

The story is a satire on bureaucracy. A man got once robbed of his money and his identity card. When he wants to marry he finds out that his identity was hijacked by a marriage swindler and soon the problems with the bureaucrats spiral out of control. While investigating the case he meets a woman which soon seems far more intriguing to him than his own bride. But it seems not even the death of the criminal who took his identity is enough to restore his civilian standing …

Paul, a prize-winning war journalist, returns to his remote New Zealand hometown due to the death of his father, battle-scarred and world-weary. For the discontented sixteen-year-old Celia he opens up a world she has only dreamed of. She actively pursues a friendship with him, fascinated by his cynicism and experience of the world beyond her small-town existence. But many, including the members of both their families, frown upon the friendship and when Celia goes missing, Paul becomes the increasingly loathed and persecuted prime suspect in her disappearance.

Lynn (22) lives with her brother in Berlin. There she enjoys the advantages of family life, without really feeling involved in it. She does not have any precise aim in life, but manages to awaken the interest of many people with her direct and spontaneous character. Her boyfriend David is very different: he is entirely engrossed in his very disciplined swimming training for the world championships. David does not intend to allow himself to be distracted by the complicating factors of a relationship with Lynn.

A woman arrives at a lonely mansion and finds herself mixed up with a lunatic who has built his own torture chamber, which is already crowded with victims - and he plans to make her his next one.
