Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725) and his son Domenico Scarlatti (1685-1757) are today the two best-known representatives of the Scarlatti family of musicians who were active throughout Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries. Alessandro was one of the main exponents of the Neapolitan school and was particularly appreciated for his vocal music (operas, oratorios, cantatas, etc.) during his lifetime. Today, Domenico is most famous for his numerous compositions for keyboard instruments, which were mainly written in Spain. Here, their cantatas are effectively combined with Domenico's sonatas.

The press release pack that I received with this album contains some quite grandiose claims such as the release has as its opening track “what may possibly be the most exciting interpretation of the Ellington associated classic, ‘Caravan’, and that has ever been recorded.
