“Synthesizer-playing composer Didier Marouani is the founding member of the French synth/space rock band Space. He was classically trained as a pianist at the Paris Conservatoire, but recorded his first album as a singer in 1975. Space was formed by Marouani in 1977, after he decided to focus more on composition. After leaving Space in 1980 he focused on his solo career. Marouani recorded his opera for choirs and synthesizers, Space Opera in 1987. The recording session was an international effort, bringing together choirs from the U.S. (Harvard University Choir) and U.S.S.R. (Red Army Choir). Apparently, a copy of Space Opera was put in the MIR space station. Highly recommended. One of my favourite albums of the decade. Really moving and deeply touching.”More about Marouani on allmusic.com

Didier Rotella’s "Zone Grise" unfolds in a space of perpetual transformation, where sound navigates between density and purity, acoustic and electronic, structure and fluidity. Catharsis combines hybrid instruments and spatialized textures to evoke a dramatic journey of evolution and renewal, while Fragrances draws inspiration from perfume composition, blending musical elements into a rich, multi-layered tapestry. Mogari reflects on ritual and humanity through augmented instruments and poetic gestures, tracing a spiritual passage from lament to resolution. Each piece reveals Rotella’s ability to craft intricate, ever-shifting soundscapes that invite reflection on balance, motion, and the ephemeral nature of musical expression.

The remarkable train of events set in motion by a catchy Seventies disco hit took even its composer by surprise. But a major part of the success was due to his own imagination, enthusiasm and perseverance. Didier, the composer and keyboard player who formed his group Space in 1977, was surprised when an experimental demo recording evolved into an international chart topper. He had grown up in a showbiz family, but even he wasn’t prepared for the dramatic events that followed in the wake of overnight stardom.
But it was a strange kind of celebrity, because the composer was hidden underneath a space helmet when the first promotional video was made and Space was really a studio concept rather than a touring band. Nevertheless, "Magic Fly" gave birth to the French synthesizer disco boom…

Harpsichords at the Heart of Contemporary Music: It may raise a few eyebrows that 20th century music should be arranged for the harpsichord and worse still, for two of them. Most people associate the instrument with early music, the sound world of Renaissance and Baroque court life. Yet in the past the harpsichord was always at the forefront of avant-garde experiments in composition and acoustics.

So greatly did Ignaz Lachner venerate Mozart that he arranged twelve of the 27 piano concertos for performance by small ensembles. Lachner, who had known Schubert in Vienna and had met Beethoven, was superbly equipped for these arrangements ensuring that the string quintet of soloists, with the double bass largely doubling the cello role, sounds thoroughly idiomatic. The three selected works represent the different sized orchestras Mozart employed, K. 246 being the most lightly scored, and K. 488 the most complex. The anonymous arrangement of excerpts from Die Zauberflote proves equally vital and attractive.

The early music ensemble Solamente naturali was founded in 1995 by its artistic director, the violinist Miloš Valent. Conceived as a ensemble of artists of specialists wishing to focus on the interpretation of 17th and 18th century music on historical instruments, Solamente naturali is flexible: from a trio or septet, to a large baroque orchestra performing cantatas and oratorios with its own vocal ensemble SoLa. Openness of thought and the courage to bring new perspectives to the interpretation of music of the past has inspired many contemporary composers (such as V.Godár, M.Paľko and P.Zagar) to write new works for the ensemble, which have been performed at contemporary music festivals (Melos Etos) and concert series.
