Verne’s interest in science and new discoveries reflects the optimism of the late 19th century, and Suppé’s music is a perfect reflection of the light and dark in the narrative, evocatively tracking Phileas Fogg’s enterprising and at time dangerous voyage, and taking in the exotic orient and Gold Rush America along the way.

It was a waltz that led to the success of Die Dollarprinzessin, not only in America (where the action is set) but also around the globe. Nevertheless, during its Broadway debut the usual inserts by American composers were an absolute must, including the hornpipe quintet “A Boat Sails on Wednesday” by Jerome Kern, who until then was largely unknown. Although the New York Times found “this burlesque Apache dance” to be “very amusing,” it nevertheless emphasized that “Dr. Fall’s music nonetheless is situated high above such trivialities.” The libretto was written by the authorial team formed by Alfred Maria Willner and Fritz Grünbaum.

Januar 1931 die jüngste Tochter von Maria und Giuseppe zur Welt kam: Caterina.

Das Ensemble Hofkapelle München unter der Leitung von Experte Rüdiger Lotter präsentiert die erste exzellente und historisch fundierte Einspielung der Oper "Der Stein der Weisen oder: die Zauberinsel". Die Oper gilt als Vorläufer von W.A. Mozarts gefeiertem Meisterwerk "Die Zauberflöte", mit einem Libretto von Emanuel Schikaneder, der später auch das Libretto für "Die Zauberflöte" schreiben sollte. Diese Oper ist nicht von einem, sondern von gleich vier Komponisten geschrieben worden, darunter Mozart.
