It will soon be the centenary of Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, rightly regarded as the greatest baritone of the twentieth century, as much for his warm, instantly recognisable voice as for his innate sense of text and perfect diction. Warner Classics is celebrating his memory with an exhaustive boxset of all his lieder and song recitals. Let’s put our ears back on his most iconic successes, the great Schubert cycles accompanied on the piano by his long-time partner Gerald Moore.

20 years ago, at the beginning of his career, the young baritone Bo Skovhus made his first recording of Schubert’s “Schöne Müllerin”. Now, as a famous opera and Lied interpreter he presents a new production of all 3 Schubert Cycles: “I’m very thankful to do this again. As a young men you do not reflect so much what happen. Now, when I’m older, I understand much more about. Especially for this cycle it’s important to have another point of view.” (Bo Skovhus) Stefan Vladar, the famous Viennese pianist and his partner on the piano, shows us the virtuosity of the piano part in a new different light.

He collaborates with the Warsaw Chamber Opera, the Polish Royal Opera, the National Opera in Brno (Oberon in Benjamin Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream), as well as with Polish and foreign symphony and chamber orchestras and ensembles, including the Wrocław Baroque Orchestra, Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, the {oh!} Orkiestra, Vox Luminis, Concerto Köln, Wrocław Baroque Ensemble, Capella Cracoviensis, Solamente Naturali, Ensemble Polyharmonique, Musica Aeterna, Vasa Consort, Concerto Polacco, and Consortium Sedinum.

Georg Philipp Telemann never missed the opportunity to delight those around him with countless compositions treating the subject of love and its consequences. The origins of his enormous achievement in this field are certainly to be sought in his personal disposition: in his exuberant joy in composition, combined with an open, optimistic attitude in his dealings with his environment, which in his works not rarely revealed his roguish sense of humor. And so he above all was very much in demand as a composer of wedding pieces.
