"White Heat" is the twelfth studio album recorded by singer Dusty Springfield, and eleventh released. It was only released in the United States and Canada. More so than her previous two albums, It Begins Again (1978), and Living Without Your Love (1979), and the non-album single "It Goes Like It Goes" (1980), White Heat was a distinct departure from Springfield's Los Angeles-produced radio-friendly soft rock sound, being closely identified with the new wave, synthpop sounds of the early 1980s.

Motown's series of Commodores two-fers paired "Hot on the Tracks" with "In the Pocket" and, in doing so, spanned a rather drastic breach in the group's evolution. Lionel Richie and company had recorded Hot on the Tracks just as they were hitting their stride in the mid-'70s, fresh off the burgeoning, yet still relatively modest, success of Caught in the Act and Movin' On. It's an excellent album, surely one of the group's best. On the other hand, the Commodores had recorded In the Pocket in 1981, after five steady years of chart-topping quiet storm ballads and a gradual shift from loose funk to stiff disco. Furthermore, by the time the Commodores recorded In the Pocket, Richie had become the group's de facto hitmaker and was on the brink of jumping ship for an incredibly popular solo career.

"Release Me" is a 2012 compilation album of rare and previously unreleased tracks by American singer Barbra Streisand. She announced the album's release on her official website in August 2012. It contains tracks recorded between her 1967 "Simply Streisand" and 2011 "What Matters Most" albums, gathering unreleased material from, among others, "Stoney End", "The Broadway Album", and "Back to Broadway". The compilation's release was accompanied by a series of short video clips posted onto YouTube, in which Barbra discussed every track. A music video for "I Think It's Going to Rain Today" was directed, photographed and edited by Matt Amato. The album debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 albums sales chart (with approximately 40,000 copies sold), making this her 32nd Top 10 album and her 7th consecutive Top 10 effort since "The Movie Album" in 2003.

One of the more curious acts in the Bay area group scene was a band (or collective) called One, or, more specifically 1, acquaintances of Paul Kantner and Grace Slick from Bolinas. A nine-piece ensemble including two female vocalists, they engaged in lengthy, drifting tunes that drew as much from raga as from rock, with touches of jazz and country. One member, Roger Crissinger, the only semi-known quantity, had previously enjoyed notoriety having been a member of the progressive rock group Pearls Before Swine. But the leader of the group was a mysterious man who didn't always sing so much as vocalise in his own unique way, often without words, who needed words…
