Legend is a hefty title to carry, especially if you're still kicking. The standards are high, the expectations immense. Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, and Tammy Wynette are, nevertheless, legends of country music with decades of albums and awards to prove it. And they are very much still kicking on Honky Tonk Angels – just in case anyone needs a little reminder. You can even hear how much fun they had singing together, setting aside any historic competition and letting their love of country music shine through, each gracefully moving between lead and harmony vocals. As for the song selection, it covers a wide swath of country history from tunes made famous by early pioneers like Ferlin Husky, the Davis Sisters, and Hank Locklin to their own more contemporary compositions. If that weren't enough credibility, Kitty Wells lends her amazing voice to the opening anthem "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels." Pure goodness. In another twist, Patsy Cline sings on "Lovesick Blues" with Parton, Lynn, and Wynette backing her. The closing track sums up the humorous reverence that permeates much of country music. "I Dreamed of a Hillbilly Heaven" was a hit for Tex Ritter in 1961 and is a surprising choice that seems a bit out of place, but somehow works well enough. For fans of traditional country or great singers, this is a fun listen because it nicely captures three of the best voices around.

Four classic RCA albums from the team of Porter Wagoner & Dolly Parton – all brought together in a single set! Once More is a pivotal moment in the duo career of Porter Wagoner and Dolly Parton – both solo singers who'd worked together on earlier records, but really seemed to hit their stride around the time of this set! Both Porter and Dolly gel together perfectly – often singing together, not trading back and forth as much – in ways that only make the lyrics of the songs resonate more strongly. Titles include "I Know You're Married But I Love You Still", "Daddy Was An Old Time Preacher Man", "A Good Understanding", "Let's Live For Tonight", "Once More", "Fight & Scratch", and the tear-jerker "Ragged Angel".

Stories are meant to be shared and passed on through generations. As they're told and re-told, they transform—details change shape and become less important. It's no longer just about the narrative—it's about feeling. This is something Dolly Parton is intimately familiar with, because if a woman of the South understands anything, it's the art of telling a good story. And the good storytellers—the truly remarkable ones—share a few things in common: they tell you something familiar, they teach you something new, and they surprise you in a way that you weren't expecting…

"Walking on Sunshine" is a song written by Kimberley Rew for Katrina and the Waves' 1983 eponymous debut full-length album. Standing just 5 feet 2 inches tall, country singer and songwriter Dolly Parton is as well known for her physical appearance and sense of humour as for her songwriting, singing or acting. Famous for her hair (usually wigs) and make-up, her diminutive stature and ample chest, she has always joked about her physical up-keep with comments like "It takes a lot of money to look this cheap".

The four-disc box set called the Acoustic Collection: 1999-2002 assembles the three albums Dolly Parton cut for the independent Sugar Hill label, and a hodgepodge bonus DVD. The albums – The Grass Is Blue, Little Sparrow, Halos & Horns – were all critically acclaimed as they signified a return by Parton to her bluegrass and backwoods country roots. That said, there are cover versions here of many songs, including one of Led Zeppelin's infamous, ubiquitous hit, "Stairway to Heaven." The enclosed DVD features five new song mixes for "Seven Bridges Road," "Travelin' Prayer," "Train, Train," "Shine," and "I'm Gone." There are two non-Parton performances recorded at the Dolly Parton Tribute by Kasey Chambers and Sinéad O'Connor, three videos for songs from this collection, and a duet performance between Parton and Norah Jones singing "The Grass Is Blue."

"Peace Train" is the title of a 1971 hit song by Cat Stevens, taken from his album Teaser and the Firecat. The song climbed to #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during the week of October 9, 1971, becoming Stevens' first US Top 10 hit. The song also spent three weeks at #1 on the adult contemporary chart. In 1996, Dolly Parton included a version of "Peace Train", accompanied by South African vocal group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, on her album of covers Treasures. Parton produced a CBS television special, airing in November 1996, to promote the album, in which she described "Peace Train" as a personal favorite.
