Whitehorse is the prolific partnership of Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet. Uninhibited by expectation, boldly adventurous and categorically talented, Whitehorse’s signature sound is always guitar-heavy, harmony-plentiful and lyrically deft. "I’m Not Crying, You're Crying" shows Whitehorse venturing deeper and further into Americana/country sounds and stylings than ever before.
Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying (1964). The career of Gerry and the Pacemakers paralleled that of the Beatles up to a certain point. Like the Beatles, they came from Liverpool, England, and were signed to a subsidiary of EMI Records, in their case Columbia (no relation to American Columbia), their recordings overseen by George Martin. As with the Beatles, in the U.S., their records were licensed to a small independent label (Laurie, while the Beatles were on Vee-Jay), and, despite their British success, it was not until their fifth single that they achieved a stateside breakthrough. For the Beatles, that fifth single was "I Want to Hold Your Hand"; for Gerry and the Pacemakers, four months later in May 1964, it was the ballad "Don't Let the Sun Catch You Crying." Laurie quickly assembled a corresponding LP out of existing recordings…
When Joanna Loved Me (1974). A compelling little record from guitarist Dom Minasi - a player we only know from these few Blue Note albums cut right toward's the label's initial run - sweet albums that might have pushed Dom further, had they gotten better exposure! Minasi's a pretty talented guitarist - with a style that's somewhere between the quirkiness of Sonny Greenwich, and the smooth sound of Earl Klugh - and while the style here might show some of the elements of Klugh's initial work for Blue Note, the overall presentation is a lot more stripped down - never too smooth, and with plenty of focus on the jazz elements in Dom's music…
After Crying is one of the most exciting group of the international music scene. After many concerts around the world, they have celebrated their 25th birthday and the release of their 14th album with a special anniversary concert in the Palace of Arts in Budapest. The ensemble has been consciously forming its values since the beginning, regarding the greatest figures of European culture as their role models. The composers of After Crying have always sought to create music that, by using today's common musical idiom, is understood by many, yet is still able to convey profound message on serious subjects at the highest artistic standard. This unique contemporary classical music addresses both the audiences of its own age and eternity.
Birds on a Wire is an enchanting voice and cello duo formed by French-American singer Rosemary Standley (with multinational France-based alt-folk band Moriarty) and young Brazilian singer, songwriter and cellist Dominique Pinto aka Dom la Nena. Initiated by Rosemary Standley in 2011 as “Rosemary’s Songbook”, the project evolved into the Birds on a Wire duo when the producer of Madamelune an independent Paris-based stage and music production company introduced her to Dom La Nena.
