In The Moment is a fourteen track instrumental jazz fusion album, with the exception of the last track, "Can I Count On You", which features vocalists Christopher Cross, Melinda Doolittle, Bill Champlin, Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Ron Hemby, and Mandisa. The highlight of the project is definitely the monster rhythm section of drummer, Vinnie Colaiuta and bassist, Nathan East, who appear on three tracks; a fourth track with Vinnie, the title cut, is a duo with Tom Hemby on electric guitar.
Wide Open marks Michael McDonald’s first set of original material in 17 years. McDonald wrote Wide Open over several years and recorded the tracks at his Nashville studio with drummer Shannon Forrest (Faith Hill, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Toto) and a crew of the city's session players and features collaborations with guitarist-singer Warren Haynes (Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule), guitarist Robben Ford, bassist Marcus Miller and saxophonist Branford Marsalis.
Larry Carlton may not have been issuing records in the United States with any regularity, but Sapphire Blue proves he hasn't been sitting on his hands, either. It's Carlton's first blues-oriented album in many years. Featuring a large band with a complete horn section, Reese Wynans on B-3, Matt Rollings on Rhodes piano, Terry McMillan on piano, and others, Carlton is in fine, even understated form here. This group plays like a band with a soloist at its center, not like a bunch of paid hacks backing up a guitar whiz.
