In the fifty songs we find in Carneriana, so carefully interpreted, David Alegret invites us dive into a poetic and musical universe that reveres life, that celebrates existence, and that expresses the beauty in the world look for sonorities, contrasts, and harmonies that can be reflected in song. What better answer than Carner’s poetry, Alegret’s placid, rigorous singing, and Fernández Aguirre’s wise pianism. And yet, the tenor and pianist did not settle for the more or less typical and predictable formulas, such as the Carnerian songs by Toldrà (which already play their own integral part), but also with living authors, to whom ad hoc compositions were requested for the production of this record. The music gathered in this album, which sings Carner’s poetry, allows us to be free and to be masters of ourselves and our time.

It’s a collection of slow jams that glide by like dreamy R&B hits, except these beats are built from the raw throb of Latin trap (“Una Flor”) and the rattling thump of reggaeton (“Pide Lo Que Tú Quieras”). Ozuna drops softly murmured soul hooks and bars that bristle with bad-boy charm, all while the synths twinkle and the drums patter like a music box’s lullaby.

Born in 1977 in La Paz to Colombian and English parents, Léonardo Montana grew up between Bahia in Brazil and Guadeloupe where he was introduced to jazz. Passed by the jazz department of the CNSM of Paris, he became known in particular in the group Yôkaï of the drummer Anne Paceo. With fiery lyricism and great rhythmic ease, he performs with singer Agathe Iracema and Cuban saxophonist Irving Acao, among others. Globe-trotter of jazz, he is a pianist and composer of rare finesse, rhythm and lyricism. He delivers an acoustic jazz of exceptional quality.
