The Equation of Time is the Charke-Cormier Duo’s third album and their second to feature recital programming that spans various genres and styles. Like their first album, Ex Tempore, it showcases their shared aspiration to play music both old and new, original works and arrangements, to explore the stunning timbral combination of flute and guitar. Also like their first album, The Equation of Time begins with the music of Brazilian-Canadian guitarist and composer Celso Machado. Sambamar, Machado’s second book of music for flute and guitar, is a collection of six dance-inspired pieces with evocative titles. In addition to being the composer, Machado is featured as a percussion performer on all six tracks on this recording.

The violin sonatas of Sergei Prokofiev were written during the tumultuous years of 1938-1946. Prokofiev’s musical language in both sonatas was already fully developed.

Bettina Kriegbaum wurde als fünfzehnjährige in die Vorschule der Musikhochschule Stuttgart aufgenommen und absolvierte ihr Violinstudium bei Professor Will Beh. Während des anschließenden künstlerischen Aufbaustudiums und der Künstlerreife wurde sie vom Primarius des Melos-Quartett, Professor Wilhelm Melcher, betreut. In dieser Zeit gründete sie das Rubino Streichquartett, mit dem sie mehrere Jahre im In- und Ausland konzertierte. Darüber hinaus besuchte sie Meisterkurse, unter anderem bei Leonard Bernstein, Henryk Szeryng und Rainer Kußmaul. Auch heute noch ist Bettina Kriegbaum der Kammermusik sehr verbunden und musiziert in verschiedenen Orchestern und Ensembles.

"Memories Unsettled" explores music that has too often been marginalized from the historical musical canon. Sun Min Kim and Hilary Glen joined forces during the height of the pandemic, forming the Gibbs Street Duo. This piano-cello duo tours colleges and universities across the country, sharing their inspiring music with students, faculty, and other patrons of the arts. The album features composers from diverse backgrounds including Dorothy Rudd Moore, James Lee III, Ching-chu Hu, and HyeKyung Lee. Moore’s Dirge and Deliverance is a sonata in two movements written in 1971 that uses music to reflect on the Black experience in 1960s America. Abraham’s Sons written by James Lee III was written in 2013 to express horror and outrage at the killing of Trayvon Martin. Through these pieces and more like them, the Gibbs Street Duo demonstrate the power and relevance of music as a catalyst for change.
