Astronaut has been certified "Gold" in the UK for sales of over 100,000 copies. It was certified Gold in Italy. As of 2008, it had sold around 260,000 copies in the US. It has so far sold around 1 million copies around the world. On December 20, 2005, Astronaut was released on the SACD format.

It features his breakthrough hit, "Someday, Someway", which reached No. 36 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the summer of 1982, as well as No. 31 on the Cash Box singles chart.
