After a meteorite strikes a lamp outside the Axiom, a robot named BURN-E is sent to repair it. WALL-E and EVE's adventures indirectly prevent BURN-E from fixing the lamp. After multiple attempts, BURN-E finally fixes the lamp but is locked out (a scene that is seen in the actual WALL-E movie) and tries to get back inside. After multiple futile attempts, BURN-E gets back inside, only to fall back out when AUTO tilts the ship. When the ship is corrected, it goes into warp and heads back to earth. BURN-E is pinned to the ship as it lands on Earth. When the ship lands, BURN-E finds the ship to be deserted. He ends up in an escape pod and waves to the supply robot, SUPPLY-R. As he is waving, BURN-E accidentally presses the "launch" button, sending the pod crashing to the ground. BURN-E flings the hatch of the pod into the air as he jumps out. He tests the newly fixed lamp, only to have it destroyed by the flying escape hatch.

Il film è ambientato a Roma, durante il primo dopoguerra. Ferdinando Esposito (Totò) è un piccolo furfante che cerca di mantenere famiglia con i piccoli imbrogli e furtarelli. Con il suo complice Amilcare (Aldo Giuffrè) finge di aver trovato una moneta antica nel Foro romano ed imbroglia un turista americano: Mr. Locuzzo che, per sua sfortuna, è il presidente di un comitato americano di beneficenza. Durante la distribuzione di alcuni pacchi-dono, questi lo riconosce e lo denuncia.Comincia così un comico inseguimento da parte di un grasso agente di polizia: il Brigadiere Bottoni (Aldo Fabrizi). In un primo tempo riesce a catturarlo, ma imbrogliato poi da Esposito, se lo lascia scappare. Sospeso dal servizio per le proteste di Mr. Locuzzo, l'agente Bottoni rischia di perdere il posto se non riuscirà ad arrestare il ladruncolo entro tre mesi. Vestiti gli abiti borghesi e tenuto nascosto l'accaduto alla propria famiglia, per non farla preoccupare, si mette alla ricerca di Esposito. Trova la sua casa e così ne conosce la famiglia. Di Esposito, però nulla. A poco, a poco la famiglia Bottoni e quella Esposito fanno amicizia. Sarà lo stesso brigadiere ad incoraggiare l'amicizia di suo figlio con quello di Esposito.
