les négresses vertes are a cult french alternative band formed in 1987 with a unique sound. the original line up was a group of 9 friends, some of them never played music before : we can say they very quickly improved . they can be best described as a fusion of world music and alternative rock. their particular music influences were raï, mediterrean music and french café / chanson française up to lyrics.

It is a pity that so few recordings of Maria Callas in concert exist to leave the testimony of this genius of the singing and actor's play that she was. Only 5 recitals have been filmed (Paris 1958, Hamburg 1959 and 1962, Covent Garden 1962 and 1964), recorded on 3 DVD. Here is the first one of them (and maybe the best), Paris 1958.

That Evening, Callas was to sing in Paris for the first time! We knew she had the vocal genius of a great Diva as well as the rages and outbursts expected of one. Regular opera-goers knew of her but she was unknown to most people. And that very evening, she was about to be revealed to them….. What an unforgettable evening! Three hours earlier, Callas had just been a Diva; at midnight she became a star for millions of viewers. It was a triumph for Callas and also for television because that emotion of years ago can still be felt today. Callas is present among us. For ever.

Créé en 1872 à Bruxelles, La Fille de Mme Angot, opéra-comique de Charles Lecocq, reçut un accueil triomphal dès ses premières représentations et s’est longuement maintenu au répertoire des théâtres de province en France, mais aussi en Allemagne où il est même devenu très populaire. Ce genre d’ouvrage a rencontré deux problèmes récurrents en France où on le distribuait le plus souvent à des chanteurs secondaires, dans des productions marquées par la routine et sur la base d’éditions lacunaires, pour ne pas dire médiocres.

La véritable grande escroquerie du rock and roll , c’est pas du côté des Pistols, enfin de Mac Laren et son film « The Great Rock and Roll Swindle » que vous la trouverez… c’est plutôt en Belgique qu’il faut la chercher, plus précisément chez Lou Deprijck et Yvan Lacomblez, deux bruxellois pur jus. Si leurs noms, là, tout de suite, ne vous disent rien, en revanche, il y a de fortes chances que vous vous soyez déjà trémoussés sur le hit interplanétaire dont ils sont les heureux (et depuis fortunés…) créateurs : “Ca plane pour moi”!

The most creative years of his career he recorded under the DECCA label (1961-1963) and then under the famous label of Eddie Barclay until 1972 when he stopped his public performances with a "good-bye" concert at the "Palais des Sports de Paris".
