She was created by Will Eisner (of the Eisner Awards fame) and S.M. "Jerry" Iger of the comic-book packager Eisner & Iger, one of a handful of studio that produced comics on demand for publishers and syndicates at the time. Sheena possesses the ability to communicate with wild animals after having grown up with them since being orphaned in the jungle. She is quite proficient in fighting with knives, spears, and bows, and a variety of other makeshift weapons. She is the first female comic-book character with her own title, with her Spring 1942 premiere beating (Summer 1942) by three months. A distaff Tarzan, Sheena inspired a wealth of similar comic-book jungle queens. In 2007 Devil's Due Publishing (DDP) acquired the comic book rights to Sheena and began their run of the title. This post includes all the Sheena comics from DDP, plus an added bonus: the comic book anthology , published in 1999 by Paragon Publications featuring a compilation of some of the original Sheena stories issued during the 1940's and edited by Bill Black. The foreword alone by Bill Black and Bill Feret contains a wealth of information. Add to that the reprints of the original black-and-white Sheena stories and what you have is comics history.

Phantom Lady Archives Vol. 1 - The Complete War Years (Quality 1941-1943)
English | CBR | 211 pages | 112.63 MB

Phantom Lady is a fictional superheroine, one of the first female superhero characters to debut in the 1940s Golden Age of Comic Books. Originally published by Quality Comics, the character was subsequently published by a series of now-defunct comic book companies, and a new version of the character currently appears in books published by DC Comics. As published by Fox Feature Syndicate in the late 1940s, the busty and scantily-clad Phantom Lady is a notable and controversial example of "good girl art," a style of comic art depicting voluptuous female characters in provocative situations and pin-up poses that contributed to widespread criticism of the medium's effect on children. Phantom Lady was created by the Eisner & Iger studio, one of the first to produce comics on demand for publishers. The character's early adventures were drawn by Arthur Peddy. This is an original collection of scans arranged into a tpb.

Classics Illustrated were comic book adaptations from classic literature, a series that Russian-born Albert Lewis Kanter (1897-1973) began in 1941 for Elliot Publishing. Introduced under the heading Classic Comics, the series started October, 1941, with a 64-page adaptation of Alexandre Dumas‘ , followed by and . With the fourth issue, The Last of the Mohicans, Kanter began his own Gilberton Publications. The first 12 issues had 64 pages, but wartime paper shortages forced Kanter to reduce each issue to 56 pages. In 1947, after the first 34 issues, Kanter changed the title from Classic Comics to Classics Illustrated, a logo with a high visibility over the next 15 years because Kanter, unlike other comic book publishers, kept his titles in print, going back to press with occasional reprintings. --
