At the finale of the "Musikfest Berlin" 2022, the musicians of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and their BigBand performed “Epitaph” as a tribute to the 100th birthday of Charles Mingus.

Jorge Rossy turns to vibraphone and marimba and delivers a trio set filled with momentous originals for his ECM leader-debut. Marked by their immediate melodic appeal, the vibraphonist’s lines are in lively interplay with his colleagues, Robert Landfermann on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums. After Jorge’s recent contribution on drums to Jakob Bro’s trio with trumpeter Arve Henriksen on Uma Elmo, the present line-up sees him focusing on his own music. On Puerta the Spaniard shines as he navigates a programme that proves him as much an eloquent composer as a powerful melodic voice.

This album is the meeting of three passionate souls of music, flowing the guitar of Ernesto Hermoza, irrepressible in the knowledge of the worlds afroperuano and flamenco. The telluric winds of Jorge Pardo with flamenco roots and contemporary and I, Juan Medrano Cotito, well placed in my afroperuvian roots and my crazy flight in different musical genres. This gives way to a musical encounter between Spain and Peru, meeting melodies, rhythm and frenesi, inviting everyone to this beautiful musical encounter.

The guitar legacy of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco (1895-1968) stands at well over one hundred works, a highly significant proportion of his compositional output. He was one of the first generation of nonguitarist guitar composers, most of whom were drawn to the instrument by Andrés Segovia as part of his the Spanish virtuoso’s endeavour to ennoble and to dignify the status of his preferred instrument alongside instruments such as the piano, violin and cello that commanded such high public respect.
