Daniel Janke is a Canadian composer, jazz pianist, and media artist. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in Ontario, Canada.

Tartaros is in Greek mythology a personified part of the underworld still under Hades.
He is allegedly so deep that an anvil that fell from the earth to Tartaros took nine days to reach him; as long as the anvil needed to get from heaven to earth. This mythical realm offers the trio of saxophonist and bass clarinettist Christoph Beck with pianist Patrick Bebelaar and drummer and tabla player Bodek Janke the ideal basis for virtuoso improvisations and densely intertwined collectives.

Daniel Janke is a Canadian composer, jazz pianist, and media artist. He was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and grew up in Ontario, Canada. Early piano studies were with the Royal Conservatory of music. Daniel completed a masters degree in ethnomusicology at York University, Toronto. He studied kora with Jali Nyama Suso, and with Yan Kuba Saho, in Gambia, West Africa. Daniel performs and records with his group WinterTrio, and is artistic director of the community-based Problematic Orchestra. Janke has been collaborating with dancers and choreographers for decades. This recording highlights some of these compositions for dance.
