Beauty and talent combined in Fran Jeffries (1937-2016), a complete entertainer with a warm, sultry, distinctive style and complete command of lyrics and melody in every performance. She believed… thought… lived and inhabited the songs. As a singer and entertainer she oozed sexual allure —and more besides— with a persuasiveness that would melt the stoniest of hearts. On her first album, "Fran: Can Really Hang You Up the Most," recorded in 1961, the orchestra conducted and arranged by such a talented bandleader as Ralph Burns provides Fran with the ideal setting to prove that she sounded like no one else. Hollywood also surrendered to the charms of a singer of this range and sophistication, and although her film career was short, she will always be remembered for her stunning performance of Meglio Stas era in the memorable party scene from “The Pink Panther”; and for her suggestive and exciting interpretation of the theme Sex and the Single Girl in the film of the same title.

Be clear from the git-go: this three-CD, 60-song set, which consists solely of rarities, demos, alternate takes, and unissued performances from 1964-66, should only be acquired by serious fans of the band. It's not the place to start, and most listeners would be better served by picking up a greatest hits disc or the original Autumn albums. If you do love the band, though, it's an excellent journey through the back waters of their early repertoire. The Brummels rarely wrote or recorded anything lousy, and this presents interesting, substantially different versions of officially released songs like "Laugh, Laugh" and "Just a Little"; and quite a few demos that have never before seen the light. The beautifully sad harmonies and glittering guitar arrangements are usually present, and the compositions–even the totally unissued ones–are usually quite strong. From a historical viewpoint, it's interesting in that it presents a lot of previously unheard Sal Valentino-penned tunes (Ron Elliott wrote most of the songs that ended up on official releases). The sound is superb, as are the liner notes.

Nate Walcott is a composer, arranger, keyboard player, and trumpet player. He is a member of the band Bright Eyes, and has composed the scores for several feature-length films, including the 2014 blockbuster The Fault In Our Stars; Midnight Sun (2018, starring Bella Thorne), Come And Find Me, (2016, starring Aaron Paul and Annabelle Wallis); the Josh Boone written and directed Stuck in Love, (2012, starring Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly); Lovely Still, (2008, starring Ellen Burstyn and Martin Landau), and the short film Wig Shop, (2016, starring Emily Mortimer). He also co-composed (alongside friends Jenny Lewis and Johnathan Rice) the score for the film Song One (2014), starring Anne Hathaway. Most recently, he has composed the score for the mini-series “The Stand”, an adaptation of the book by Stephen King, which is currently streaming on CBS All Access.

Above the album worked the Christin Högnabba, Victoria Stjerna, Andreas Lavotha, Stefan Lindgren - Netzel: Songs and Chamber Music, and his release took place on 2021. The album has got songs with a total duration of more than an hour. A compilation is a compilation of original music.
