was a comic book anthology series in magazine format published by Quantum Cat Entertainment. It's first issue was launched in the Spring of 1998 with a foreword by the legendary and multi-awarded fantasy artist that bears its name, Frank Frazetta. Publication was quarterly for 1998 but became bimonthly in 1999. As its title says, it concentrated on fantasy and even more than many similar anthologies of its time, the reputation of Frank Frazetta attracted the best writers and the best and most audacious, cutting-edge artists as contributors for ongoing and one-shot stories. Unfortunately changes within the publishing company prompted publication to stop at issue #8. Fortunately for us, however, I have the complete high-quality digital scans of all eight issues published. Another comics collection must-have.

In 1987, Fantagraphics Books published a reprint of a comic called . Originally released in 1952 in black-and-white and simply as “Thun’da Tales,” this four-color yarn of a World War II aviator turned jungle lord is said by some to be the only comic ever printed containing solely the work of artist Frank Frazetta. True or not, the aspect of Frazetta’s energetic, powerful and, appropriately enough, primal, art work from front cover to back is enough to attract comics enthusiasts and art fans alike. Gardner Fox, already a prolific creator of many D.C. Comics characters, took a hand in writing Thun’da’s adventures. Though the main character and his origin were not complex, Fox managed to entertain with straight-forward action and adventure, and instill Thun’da with an endearing roguish quality. Frazetta’s breath-taking art work, however, lifts Thun’da Tales above the norm. Frank Frazetta’s Thun’da Tales remains classic jungle action comic book. Recommended to those whose interests are superior art and comics history.

Frank is a unique, visionary comic, exquisitely drawn and so fully realized that adults and children alike find themselves drawn deeply into Woodring's hallucinatory mindscape. The stories, almost entirely wordless, are told with brilliant, candy colors that people of all ages find alluring. Frank is an 11-year-old generic anthropomorph who lives in a force-laden landscape called the Unifactor. He is curious but not smart, naive but not noble, and his most outstanding character trait is his ineducability. Along with Pupshaw, Frank's semi-subservient housedog-like godling, the two traipse across their surreal landscape, occasionally encountering Manhog, the bloated bladder of sin with a heart of radiance who exists to thwart their prosperity. For all its mystery, the world of Frank is a simple, delightful, mesmerizing example of world-building at its most fanciful, surely to delight parents and children alike.

An overlooked classic from Frank Miller. Like Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, and Garth Ennis; when you hear the name Frank Miller the entire list of classic comic book tales comes to mind. From Daredevil, to Batman, down to Sin City and in the thick of the battle of 300; Miller has crafted classics with what seems like relative ease. Ronin is not only a change of pace for fans of Miller's more notable works, but it is also one of his finest. A disgraced and masterless samurai, a ronin, finds himself reborn in the lawless and oppressive world of 21st century New York, which has become a technological jungle. Also reborn is the demon Agat; whom the Ronin died fighting in an effort to avenge the death of his master. I don't want to say any more for fear of spoiling the story, but I will go as far as to say that Ronin packs in all the pulpy dialogue, conflicts, action, and artwork that anyone remotely familiar with Frank Miller would come to expect. If there's any real negative to Ronin, than it's the ending, which may leave some scratching their heads, and others wondering just what Miller was trying to really get across here. That aside, Ronin is an overlooked classic from the great Frank Miller, and if you're a fan who has never given this book a chance, you should definitely pick this up.
