Frankie, 9 ans, et sa mère Lizzie se déplacent de ville en ville d'aussi loin que peut remonter la mémoire de l'enfant, et se retrouvent maintenant dans une ville de la côte écossaise. Afin de protéger son fils sourd de la dure réalité de leur fuite en avant pour s'éloigner de son père, Lizzie a inventé que celui-ci était parti en mer sur le navire HMS Accra. Régulièrement, elle écrit à Frankie une fausse lettre signée de la main de son soi-disant père racontant ses aventures dans des pays exotiques. Mais Frankie découvre que le fameux bateau est sur le point d'accoster dans la ville où il se trouve actuellement. Lizzie doit alors choisir entre dire la vérité à Frankie et trouver un parfait inconnu pour jouer, l'espace d'une journée, le rôle de son père.

Nine year-old Frankie and his mom, Lizzie, have been on the move ever since he can remember. To protect her son from the truth, Lizzie has invented a story to satisfy Frankie's curiosity. She regularly writes Frankie a letter from his make-believe father who works aboard a ship traveling to exotic lands. However, Lizzie soon finds out his father's ship will be arriving in a few days. Now, Lizzie must choose between telling Frankie the truth and hatching a desperate plan to find the perfect stranger to play the perfect father.

Drake’s calling card has become “Best I Ever Had”, a likable, breezy summery pop song that’s managed to ascend to Hot 97 omnipresence without any sort of label backing, a very serious achievement. It’s a Nerf-heavy declaration of lust with a nice sentiment behind it, Drake telling the song’s second-person subject that she’s prettiest with no makeup, that she’s the fucking best lay he ever had. It also contains the one and only slick punchline Drake offers on the whole hour-plus mixtape: “When my album drops, bitches’ll buy it for the picture/And niggas’ll buy it, too, and claim they got it for they sister.”

With even more of the Fairport Convention crew helping him out – including bassist Dave Pegg and drummer Dave Mattacks along with, again, a bit of help from Richard Thompson – as well as John Cale and a variety of others, Drake tackled another excellent selection of songs on his second album. Demonstrating the abilities shown on Five Leaves Left didn't consist of a fluke, Bryter Layter featured another set of exquisitely arranged and performed tunes, with producer Joe Boyd and orchestrator Robert Kirby reprising their roles from the earlier release.

Frankie Miller is one of the great unsung rockers of the '70s, a blue-eyed soul singer on par with Rod Stewart and Joe Cocker who could also rock as hard as Bob Seger. All three of these artists recognized a kindred spirit in Miller, with all three covering his songs in the '70s and '80s. Like all hard-working rockers, Miller kept working right into the '90s, when he tragically suffered a brain hemorrhage while woodshedding a new band with Joe Walsh. After five months, he emerged from a coma but was paralyzed and lost his speech. His friends did their best to keep his legacy alive, a mission that peaks with 2016's Frankie Miller's Double Take. Instigated by the curiosity of Rod Stewart, producer David Mackay asked Miller's wife if there were any unreleased songs, and she sent him a bunch of tapes, which he then polished and refurbished into Double Take.
