Blood From the Soul is the vision of legendary musician Shane Embury, longtime member of extreme pioneers Napalm Death. In the early 90's Embury partnered with Lou Koller (Sick Of It All) to create the Blood From The Soul debut "To Spite the Gland That Breeds" (Earache, 1993). The album was an experimental fusion of industrial, metal, hardcore, and punk. And along with Godflesh, Pitch Shifter, Meathook Seed, and Scorn, they helped spawn a new wave of industrial-metal. Fast forward to 2020 and Blood From the Soul has awakened from hyper-sleep. Joining Embury on this new creative journey are now Dirk Verbeuren (Megadeth, Cadaver, Bent Sea, Soilwork, Tronos, Brave The Cold, etc), Jacob Bannon (Converge, Umbra Vitae, Wear Your Wounds), and Jesper Liveröd (Nasum, Burst). "DSM-5" is a twelve song conceptual album from Blood From the Soul. Lyrically the album is written from the perspectives of human beings as well as sentient machines.
A strong debut demands a strong follow-up. The pop/rock sextet BOYS FROM HEAVEN are now ready with their sophomore album, “The Descendant”. The group, though still faithful to the 80’s AOR universe, have found greater inspiration in a more atmospheric sound, where dreamy pads, punchy synthesizers and drum machines are blended with the band’s organic and authentic sound. All musical elements have been meticulously crafted in this incredibly detailed production, which is mixed and mastered by Erik Martensson (Eclipse, Ammunition, etc.). On “The Descendant”, Boys From Heaven present the sonic equivalent of cruising back to the future, straight to the arcade hall, on to the drive-in cinema, and back home to mend a broken heart. “With this release, we have made an album that doesn’t just draw its inspiration from the 80’s, but also takes the listener through an array of emotions analogous with this period of music”, keyboardist Mads Noye offers.
Glaswegian groove/metalcore act Bleed from Within have their fifth album impending release. With a five-year gap between ‘Uprising’ and ‘Era’, their last couple of albums, it was worth the wait as BFW significantly stepped up their game. Luckily, there’s only been two years between ‘Era’ and ‘Fracture’, and we were treated to the first single from this album at the end of 2019. It seems on ‘Era’ they found a nice run of form with their songwriting abilities and chemistry – perhaps with the arrival and influence of Steven Jones (also of From Sorrow to Serenity), now on his sophomore BFW album. ‘Fracture’ doesn’t stray too much from the quality or tone of the last record. It’s a solid effort – so if you liked ‘Era’, you’ll probably enjoy this one too!
