Gerard de Lairesse (Liège 1640 or 1641 – Amsterdam 1711), also Gérard de Lairesse, was a Dutch Golden Age painter and art theorist. His treatises on painting and drawing, Grondlegginge der teekenkonst (1701) and Het groot schilderboeck (1707), were highly influential on 18th Century painters like Jacob de Wit. Students of de Lairesse included the painter Jan van Mieris.

There is little doubt in my mind that Gérard Grisey is the most important French composer since Messiaen. He is, along with Tristan Murail, responsible for the 'Spectralist' movement in music, and is one of the greatest creative geniuses of the 20th century. Included on this 2008 Kairos release is a seldom performed 20-minute work for chamber orchestra, four percussionists, and two synthesizers, and a stunning work for twelve voices and tape.

Rongé par la gangrène, le musicien Jean-Baptiste Lully se souvient de sa vie. Dès 1653, il a su s'attirer les bonnes grâces du futur Louis XIV (à l'époque encore sous la coupe de sa mère, la régente Anne d'Autriche) en composant un ballet qui mettait en valeur ses talents de danseur. Si bien que lorsque Louis prend le pouvoir en 1661, il nomme Lully surintendant de la musique. Ce dernier ne cessera de concevoir des chorégraphies pour magnifier le Roi, bientôt surnommé le roi Soleil…

The King Is Dancing (Le Roi Danse) (2000) is a film by Belgian filmmaker Gérard Corbiau based on Philippe Beaussant's biography of Jean-Baptiste Lully, Lully ou le musicien du soleil (1992). Set in 17th Century France, The King Is Dancing depicts the life of Jean-Baptiste Lully and his relationship with King Louis XIV of France. Directed by Gérard Corbiau, this lavish costume drama depicts the rise of the Sun King through the eyes of Jean-Baptiste Lully. The rise of King Louis and his growing influence in the court are shown through the elaborate dance routines and the maturing of Louis from a pawn of his mother to the full glory of the Sun King.
