At the foot of Mt. Fuji lies the so-called suicide forest, a notorious place where people wary of life can exhale their last gasp. The four different stories in Jyukai all focus on this truly existing forest in Japan, where amongst others a gentle yakuza and a retiring detective confront each other. The forest exhumes an atmosphere of dread and functions as connecting factor between the different tales.

Path of the Assassin, called "Hanzo no Mon" in Japan, is the story of Hattori Hanzo, the fabled master ninja whose duty was to protect Tokugawa Ieyasu. Ieyasu was the shogun who would unite Japan into one great nation. But before he could do that, he had to learn about the facts of life. As the secret caretaker of such an influential future leader, not only does Hanzo use vast and varied ninja talents, but in living closely with Ieyasu, he forms a close friendship with the young shogun.

Then begins a five-year period of wandering on the roads of the South East of France, during which Bouvier rapes and eventually kills two dozen defenseless shepherds and farm servants of both sexes. Judge Rousseau thinks this case would help his career as a right wing politician and therefore issues warrants of arrests to find any hobo fitting the description. But if Bouvier was declared insane, the Judge's plan may become a trap…
