in comic books refer to the miniseries sequels to American director John Carpenter's popular cult film, published by Dark Horse Comics. The latter was ostensibly a remake of the 1951 Howard Hawks-Christian Nyby film , but Carpenter's film is a more faithful adaptation of the novella by John W. Campbell, Jr. which inspired the 1951 film. Dark Horse Comics published four comic miniseries sequels (, , , and ), featuring the character MacReady (played by actor Kurt Russell in the film) as the lone human survivor of Outpost #31 and depicting Childs (played by actor Keith David) as infected (The Thing From Another World: Climate of Fear Issue 3 of 4). The comic series was titled after the original 1951 Howard Hawks film in order to avoid confusion and possible legal conflict with Marvel Comics’ Fantastic Four member, the Thing. This post is the first of the miniseries, consisting of two issues, published December 1, 1991 to January 1, 1992.

"Writer Doug Murray and cover artist/co-plotter Frank Cho conclude their most exciting series yet! Over the course of the last two years, fans have been demanding answer to the mysterious origins of Jana and at the conclusion of this issue, the biggest mystery stands revealed! Illustrated by Adriano Batista and again featuring two incredible covers, one by Cho and a variant by Batista!" Thus goes the issue description of this series of mini-series from Dynamite Entertainment. I do want to say that I like the way Jana is drawn. She looks like Ms. Fitness Universe. Or Ms. Olympia circa 1980s. Which is just proper given her attire, the very obvious jungle connotation and her very obvious physical prowess.

, plotted and drawn by John Byrne and scripted by Will Pfeifer, was a 17-issue comic book series published by DC Comics from May 2005 to September 2006. The title character named Etrigan, created by prolific comic book writer-artist Jack Kirby, is an actual demon from Hell who, despite his violent tendencies, usually finds himself allied to the forces of good, mainly because of the alliance between the heroic characters of the DC Universe and Jason Blood, a human to which Etrigan is bound. While his first monthly comic book series was short-lived (, 16 issues, 1972-74), and his second was canceled after five years (, 59 issues + 2 Annuals, 1990-1995), Etrigan remains a popular supporting character with occasional additional mini-series. In (thus far his latest title series) Etrigan apparently loses the restrictions imposed upon him by the wizard Merlin which turned him from evil, caused by his "murder" at the exact moment he was transforming from his human guise Jason Blood into his demon self. It turns out that the incident has resulted in Jason Blood being able to exert some will over Etrigan's violent nature, whereas previously the two remained separate, only one existing at a time.
