Gregory Porter All Rise

Grammy award-winning singing sensation Gregory Porter’s 6th studio album, All Rise, is a heart-felt, joyful celebration of the evolution of his art to something even more emphatic, emotive, intimate, and universal. Along with producer Troy Miller (Laura Mvula, Jamie Cullum, Emili Sandé), Gregory takes us higher than ever with this uplifting album.

In addition to being gifted with a voice of pure velvet (it’s clichéd, but it’s true), the Californian who knows Great Black Music like the back of his band is also a veritable writer. And in these present (troubled) times, his pen, often synonymous with hope and light, generates healing sounds akin to rejuvenating baths such as on Revival Song, a soft of neo-gospel hymn the embraces the soul and frees the body. A similar sense of wellbeing is also present when Porter dons his crooner lover suit such as on If Love Is Overrated or when he channels Marvin Gaye and George Benson on Faith In Love. Produced with class by Troy Miller (Laura Mvula, Jamie Cullum, Emili Sande), All Rise propels the American toward an increased world recognition and, on this album, Porter reaches audiences well outside the jazz sphere.

Gregory Porter’s new release Still Rising, due out November 5, is an exquisite collection of musical delights. The first disc includes four brand-new tracks, two new arrangements, three new covers, and nine of Porter’s most loved Blue Note tracks. The second disc features notable duets including songs with Moby, Jamie Cullum, Jeff Goldblum, Renée Fleming, Dianne Reeves, Lalah Hathaway, Laura Mvula, Lizz Wright, and others.

The Movie Album is a career aspiration come true for Till Brönner, a record he's desired to make for more than a decade. His themes from Hollywood movies, classic and contemporary (with a TV theme thrown in), make this more a pop-jazz record than one for cinephiles. Co-produced by the artist and guitarist Chuck Loeb, most of the set was recorded at Hollywood's East West Studios with a crack band of studio aces, with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester's parts recorded in Berlin.
