Ruf Records has released three studio albums from Friend 'n Fellow so far - it was about time for a live recording!
Everyone who has already had the pleasure to see the duo at a concert has been carried away by the perfect live performance. The magic voice of Constanze Friend, the rich guitar grooves of Thomas Fellow - they mediate this live feeling on their DVD now. The songs were recorded in Weimar, Germany in May 2003. Friend 'n Fellow look back to the last years, they sing and play their most beautiful songs. With the term "acoustic soul" they describe themselves the blend of the different musical roots.

Chris Stamey’s collaboration with The Fellow Travelers, A Brand-New Shade Of Blue, was inspired by the intimate small-combo sound of the late ’50s and early ’60s—a time when the “cool jazz” compositions of such luminaries as John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Miles Davis, and Thelonious Monk lived alongside the expanding pop vocabulary of Burt Bacharach and Jimmy Webb. “These are songs for late nights and rainy days,” Chris explains. “I wrote most of it in the dark of winter, in whispers, in the ‘wee small hours of the morning,’ that magic time ‘when the whole wide world is fast asleep.’ And these great singers and musicians kept that mood alive throughout the sessions that followed.”

Wow, this set of 4 CDs from seminal punk pioneers, Alternative TV and their stuff from the 1970’s is as comprehensive and varied as you would expect 68 tracks to be. ATV were lead by Mark Perry who was also the founder of the fanzine Sniffin’ Glue. Mark hailed from Deptford in South East London and was turned onto punk when he heard the Ramones in 1976. By 1977 he had teamed up with Scottish guitarist Alex Fergusson (no, not the manager of Aberdeen) and they formed Alternative TV.
