Haroula Rose, whose full name is Haroula Rose Spyropoulos, was born in Chicago and spent two years in Madrid on a Fulbright scholarship starting in 2005. Upon her return to the U.S., she settled in Los Angeles and embarked on a career as a folk singer/songwriter. She self-released her debut EP, Someday, on June 24, 2009. Her full-length debut album, These Open Roads, followed in 2011. The So Easy EP was released in 2012 but it would be another 4 years before releasing Here the Blue River in 2016…

After her father’s violent death, Native American teenager Margo Crane flees down Michigan’s Stark River in search of her estranged mother. On the way, she encounters allies, enemies, danger, and the beauty of nature, all while coming to grips with her past and her own identity. A Midwestern Gothic coming-of-age fable set along the riverbanks, Chicago musician-filmmaker Haroula Rose’s debut feature is an evocative marriage of Winter’s Bone and Huckleberry Finn.
