Swedish death metallers AMON AMARTH will release a new DVD and Blu-Ray, "The Pursuit Of Vikings: 25 Years In The Eye Of The Storm", in November. The set will include a documentary as well as footage of the band's 2017 performance at the Summer Breeze festival in Dinkelsbühl, Germany.
In the mid-'90s, Mojazz - the contemporary jazz imprint of Motown was the place to turn for the best examples of the ways funk meets more creative improvisations. Norman Brown is one of the genre's brightest lights – a George Benson type whose stirring fluidity makes magic with an edge Benson never had. Many of the tracks on After the Storm are formulaic, mid-tempo gems, but Brown adds zest to even the most typical groove with a lightning fast style that jumps off the disc.
Artension was the brainchild of Shrapnel Records head Mike Varney. He received a demo from wunderkind keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij and progressive axeman Roger Staffelbach of a project they called "Atlantis Rising". Varney began to look for other musicians to round out the lineup. After a lot of consideration, Varney presented Vitalij and Roger with vocalist John West, Bassist Kevin Chown, and drummer Mike Terrana. The result was a band called Artension (named by the band for a combination of the words "art" and "tension") and a CD called "Into the Eye of the Storm".
"Following the path taken by Mostly Autumn, Karnataka looks for the ultimate synthesis of traditional Celtic music with current melodic Progressive rock. To manage this, this British band includes Rachel Jones's splendid voice and her side members' evident talents to create romantic atmospheres. Elegant electric guitar solos can evoke Andy Latimer or David Gilmour in a state of grace, while the inclusion of the flute sounds brings a welcome touch of folklore." (Progarchives.com review)
