Hermann Baumann is easily one of the finest horn players of the second half of the 20th century. He came to prominence as a soloist in the 1960s and in 1964 won the prestigious ARD International Music Competition in Munich, beating out Jessye Norman for first place

'I am an EU singer', Hermann Prey always said about himself. However, by that he did not mean so much his citizenship of a European Union country as the fact that he felt at home in the fields of 'E' and 'U', i.e. in 'serious' and entertainment music alike. For Prey, this distinction never existed, but only the issue of the quality of music, and he found this not only in opera and Lied, but also in operetta, the musical and the well-made hit. Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778–1837) der als Wunderkind von sieben Jahren Meisterschüler Mozarts, 1804 noch unter Haydn Konzertmeister im Schloß Eszterhazy wurde und sein Leben als Kapellmeister in Weimar beendete, ist heute vor allem durch sein berühmtes Trompetenkonzert bekannt. Sein umfangreiches Schaffen ist leider fast völlig vergessen, auch wenn insbesondere seine damals regelrecht avantgardistischen Klavierkonzerte und Teile seiner Kammermusik seit einiger Zeit wieder vermehrt auf das Interesse von Musikern stoßen. Die Opern und Chorwerke harren noch ihrer Wiederbelebung.

Hermann Naehring studied music at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" in Berlin in piano and drums, as well as an additional study of Asian and African-American music at Gantom Boro (India), tabla and Mridgam at Sina Pusba (India). The percussionist, arranger and composer was born in 1951 and lives in Frankfurt (Oder). He is a very versatile player, who has gone through a wide range of musical experiences, both practically and theoretically. After his 10-year job as a studio musician in the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, he was a freelance percussionist.
