Antonio Vivaldi (Venecia, República de Venecia, 4 de marzo de 1678-Viena, 28 de julio de 1741) fue un compositor, violinista, impresario, profesor y sacerdote católico veneciano del Barroco. Era apodado Il prete rosso («El cura rojo») por ser sacerdote y pelirrojo. Se le considera uno de los más grandes compositores barrocos, su influencia durante su vida se extendió por toda Europa y fue fundamental en el desarrollo de la música instrumental de Johann Sebastian Bach. Su maestría se refleja en haber cimentado el género del concierto, el más importante de su época. Compuso unas setecientas setenta obras, entre las cuales se cuentan más de cuatrocientos conciertos, para flauta, violín y diversos instrumentos musicales, y cerca de cuarenta y seis óperas. Es especialmente popular como autor de la serie de conciertos para violín y orquesta Las cuatro estaciones.

Daphne Wilder is a mother whose love knows no bounds or boundaries. Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari's I Quattro Rusteghi is a wonderful comedy. Very clever and very Italian: colourful, lively and rhythmic. The women are impertinent, cunning and seductive; the men are awful, dirty and mean. The confrontation between them is at the centre of the plot; of course this clash is explosive. This opera is a real feast for the senses and the imagination. The staging is choreographic and follows the plight of the different characters. Each is attracted by and then put down by the others. The subject could be serious, and in a way it is; but Goldoni turns it into a richly humorous comedy about emancipation.

Alessandro Stradella was the undisputed star composer of his day who wrote hundreds of works in varying genres. His cantatas are in essence miniature operas in which the themes of love and the complexities of the human condition reflected the composer’s own ‘cloak and dagger’ misadventures amidst Roman and Venetian aristocracy.

The Well-Tempered Clavier, BWV 846–893, is a collection of two sets of preludes and fugues in all 24 major and minor keys, composed for solo keyboard by Johann Sebastian Bach. In Bach's time Clavier (keyboard) was a generic name indicating a variety of keyboard instruments, most typically a harpsichord or clavichord – but not excluding an organ either.
