Jason Köhnen (Mansur / The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble / The Mount Fuji Doomjazz Corporation) returns to his experimentations within the realms of Darkjazz.

Alfred Schnittke began his career as a rather conventional composer. But Schnittke became interested in such "Western" techniques as serialism, electronic music, and quoting from earlier composers, and he left the Conservatory to work at the Moscow Experimental Studio of Electronic Music. Soon he was labeled an "avant-garde" composer in the conservative circles of Soviet music, but that description is unfortunate because it refers only to technique. What distinguishes Schnittke's music is its fusion of a refined technique with emotional depth, and many of his scores are leavened with a sharp wit.

The masterpieces recorded by Eugene Ormandy & The Philadelphia Orchestra for the old EMI label are collected into three SACD pieces, are excerpts from some concerto sound sources. For this reprint was used the new 96 kHz/24-bit mastering from the original master tapes. For this original Japanese reissue have been used the LP called "In Memoriam", which was released in the United States in 1985 as a commemorative edition of Ormandy, and adopted a board called "In Memoriam" for the design of the jacket, combining old EMI sound sources. This expanded edition of "In Memoriam" became a most valuable set that conveys these recordings.

In Memoriam examines the reality of mass shootings from a new perspective as wounded survivors, grieving relatives and first responders from three recent massacres share their most intimate secrets and open up for the first time on how their lives have been changed forever. The film moves beyond the polarized gun control debate to examine the permanent emotional scars mass shootings create. Long after the news cycle has moved on, this film returns to an outdoor stage in Nevada, a church in Texas, and a school in Florida and creates an interwoven story of enduring love, grief, pride and human resilience in the face of almost unimaginable tragedy.

Vyacheslav Artyomov is considered by many to be Russia’s greatest living composer. His music is deep, ultimately spiritual and brilliantly crafted, with influences from the Russian symphonic tradition colored by Mahler, Scriabin, Honegger and Messiaen to name a few – but melded into a unique voice. The Divine Art Artyomov Retrospective is a mix of new recordings and former Melodiya releases. This is the eighth instalment, containing three orchestral works, with an over-arching sorrowful cast – remembering, like his Requiem, the suffering of the Russian peoples under Soviet rule (and for In Memoriam, a tribute to the composer’s mother), and all typifying Artyomov’s true genius as a truly individual composer who can make thoroughly modern music listenable and demanding further regular hearings.

This Scordatura Album is the second In Memoriam album in honour of my son Dorian. It features two illustrious masterpieces written for cello in alternative, darker tunings: the Bach Suite with the top string lowered by a whole tone and the Kodály Sonata with the two bottom strings lowered by a semitone. Both pieces are fierce, resilient and profound and although painted in dark colours, they comfort us with their show of sheer musical power and luminous inventiveness.
