Susannah McCorkle spoke Italian, Spanish, German, and Portuguese in addition to English; she had worked as an interpreter before she devoted herself to singing. On her second Concord CD, McCorkle sang ten Brazilian songs plus "Estate," switching between English, Portuguese, and Italian. There is no communication problem as far as conveying her feelings and the high quality of the melodies, so this is a more accessible release than one might think. The vocalist's backup group includes pianist Lee Musiker, Scott Hamilton on tenor, and guitarist Emily Remler.
Chilean prog rockers Abrete Gandul received their widest international attention to date with the release of 2011's Enjambre Sismico on Fading Records, an affiliate of the Italian AltrOck imprint. But the Abrete Gandul that issued Enjambre Sismico was far different than the group of the same name that had its origins back in 1999. In its earliest incarnation, the band that performed in and around Santiago was very much a vehicle for singer/guitarist Mauricio Dell (aka Doctor Octava), who, according to ProgArchives, formed the group with his drummer friend Antonio Arceu and bassist Pablo Garcia.

Born in Caldes d’Estrac 25 years ago, Chumilla has trained in Switzerland, in Basel, where he has been a student of Mark Turner, Brad Mehldau, Larry Grenadier, Ambrose Akinmusire, and other celebrities. In recent years, he has dedicated himself to developing his own sound and style, which have captivated figures like Larry Grenadier and Jordi Rossy, the rhythm section of Brad Mehldau’s trio for years. Rossy and Grenadier have agreed to collaborate on Gerard Chumilla’s debut album, ‘Introducing’ (Fresh Sound New Talent, 2024). At Jamboree, this time he will record his second album, also for the Barcelona-based label Fresh Sound. It will be his first title with a quintet formation and with a group of young talents from the national and international scene, like himself. Together they will perform a repertoire of compositions by Chumilla himself. The cream of the crop of our new jazz generations at the underground venue of Plaça Reial.
Blueneck music can be decribed as epic, presenting deep cinematic atmosphere, Ethereal mood that transcends the listener taking him to the journey to the deepest corners of one's heart. Blueneck are heavily influenced by the genre's monsters like Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Sigur Ros, Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, A Silver Mt. Zion. They are not inovators of something new, but surely play post-rock at it's best. Blueneck integrate cello and piano in their sound, along with the fragile vocals of Duncan Attwood music gets some melancholic sense, but without forgetting the mind-twisting, soaring guitars.
