This US heavy metal band (unconnected with the similarly titled I.R.S. Records recording artists) formed in 1991, because ‘we just kept bumping into each other on the tour circuit’. Micki Free (guitar, ex-Shalamar) and Jean Beauvoir (b. Chicago, Illinois, USA; vocals/guitar, ex-Plasmatics) assembled Crown Of Thorns with Michael Paige (bass) and Tony Thompson (drums, ex-Power Station). The first song they wrote together, ‘Hike It Up’, was the stand-out track on their debut mini-album. With production by Kiss’ Paul Stanley on five tracks, the collection was not released outside the UK, although the band did tour extensively. Thompson was replaced by Dave ‘Hawk’ Lopez, and Free (who released a solo album in 1995) by Tommy Lafferty.

After Labelle's breakup in early 1977, Patti LaBelle, Nona Hendryx, and Sarah Dash took very different paths as solo artists. LaBelle became a middle of the road urban/adult contemporary superstar, Dash recorded the occasional R&B album with little commercial success, and Hendryx favored rock-minded albums that came the closest to Labelle's free-spirited wildness. Hendryx's solo career started out on a hard rock note with her self-titled debut album of 1977, but she took a more new wave-influenced turn in the '80s, and 1985's The Heat brings together rock and synth funk with memorable results.

Blues-Rock done in the style of Jimi Hendrix, and classic blues-rock bands of the era. Great songs with "killer guitar and melodic hooks"! Some of the best musicians around guest on the CD; drummer Cindy Blackman-Santana for instance.

Beyond the Valley of 1984 is the second album by punk-metal band The Plasmatics. After the success of their first album and tour, the band began recording their follow-up album, Beyond the Valley of 1984. After the amount of time and money that was put into their last album, Bruce Kirkland at Stiff Records agreed to put up the funds as long as Rod produced and the album was done in less than 3 weeks at a quarter of the cost of the first. Beyond the Valley of 1984 would go on to spend 9 weeks on the Billboard 200 charts, peaking at 142 in the summer of 1981.
