Wolastoqiyik Lintuwakonawa is the debut album by Canadian composer and tenor, Jeremy Dutcher – which involves post-classical rearrangement of his Wolastoq First Nation traditional music. Granted access to the Canadian Museum of History, Jeremy discovered wax cylinders from 1907 of his ancestors singing forgotten songs and stories that had been taken from the Wolastoqiyik Nation generations ago. The album is Jeremy’s contribution to his heritage and community in attempts to revitalize the Wolastoq language to the world, which has less than 100 speakers alive today. This collection of ground breaking post-classical arrangements is truly one of a kind and recalls the mood of Rufus Wainwright's operatic performance or the haunting pop of Anthony & The Johnsons.

Playing jazz is a lot like love itself, it is as much about poignancy as it is about joy, whether we listen to a torch song or read a love poem by Shelley, we experience their creator's pain or we share in their euphoria.

Trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, 25 years old, has garnered notice since landing in New York, four years ago, for his superb charts and professionalism. Insight, his Criss Cross debut, demonstrates that he's also a composer with a point of view. Helping him articulate it are a take-no-prisoners ensemble of New York first callers, all 30-and-under with the exception of veteran drum avatar Ralph Peterson. Jimmy Greene is on tenor sax, Myron Walden on alto sax, with pianist Rick Germanson and bassist Vincente Archer.

Here is another collection featuring Mona, my favourite guitar beauty! Her creator, Jan Ingar Kvisler, is an excellent Norwegian luthier who specialises in wood and tone, and custom-made her for me in 2007. He, being a man of God, told me that he prayed before each session of working on her creation, that he would make no mistakes. However, to his dismay, he made three significant blunders. The first was that he had miscalculated the length of her distinctive ebony fretboard, resulting in a shorter scale. The second was that when he was carving out the pick-up shapes on her flamed maple topped body, the router gouged out more than was required, necessitating his replacing the customary P90 plastic covers with custom-sized ones of the same maple wood. The third and crowning mistake, which resulted in me christening her ‘Mona’, is due to the varnish machine malfunctioning, resulting in a tiny pattern of cracks resembling the Mona Lisa painting.

Jazz trumpeter, composer and author Jeremy Pelt has certainly never shied away from themed albums so one might expect something cinematic from the enigmatically-titled 'Soundtrack'. However, as Pelt himself explains, "I've certainly done plenty of concept albums, but in this case there's nothing I'm on a soapbox about. It's been a tough time for all of us, so let's not worry about sending messages for a minute. Here we are, playing some songs and having some fun."

Violinist Joshua Bell and cellist Steven Isserlis are joined by two acclaimed musical forces - pianist Jeremy Denk and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, of which Bell is Music Director – in a landmark joint recording, For the Love of Brahms (Sony Classical). Available September 30, 2016, the new album is a unique project that features works of Brahms and Schumann that Bell calls “music about love and friendship.” Bell, Isserlis and Denk unite here in Brahms’s first published chamber work, the Piano Trio in B Major, Op. 8 in its rarely performed original 1854 version. Isserlis also joins Bell – as violin soloist and director – and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields in Brahms’s last orchestral work, the celebrated Double Concerto (for Violin and Cello) in A Minor, Op. 102. Bell, Isserlis and members of the Academy also offer the first recording of an unusual coupling: the slow movement of Schumann’s rarely heard Violin Concerto, in a version for string orchestra made by Benjamin Britten, who also added a short coda.

The word parlando contains several ideas that I would like to explore in this recording, as it unites the concepts of musical discourse, of speech, of narration, and of sharing.
