Navegar is bursting at the seams with sounds drawn from funk, jazz and disco and is delivered in the form of a wild travel journal, with Selva meeting artists like Flavia Coelho and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Patchworks (The Dynamics, David Walters) along the way, and navigating freely with them on the black Atlantic.

Having previously tried his hand at revivalist disco, jazz-funk and Afro-funk, it was probably only a matter of time before Bruno "Patchworks" Hovart tried his hand at Jorge Ben style samba-pop. Naturaza sees him joining forces with Ipanema-born musician and vocalist Jonathan Da Silva under the Jaoa Selva pseudonym. Musically, the album sounds like it could have been recorded in Brazil in the late '60s or early '70s, such is the fuzzy authenticity of the duo's production, instrumentation and song-writing skills. It's packed with summery, feel-good gems, the majority of which boast the distinctive shuffle of vintage samba and the jaunty musicality of early Azymuth.

When talking about bossa nova, perhaps the signature pop music sound of Brazil, the first name that comes to mind is that of Antonio Carlos Jobim. With songs like "The Girl from Ipanema" and "Desafindo," Jobim pretty much set the standard for the creation of the bossa nova in the mid-'50s. However, as is often the case, others come along and took the genre in a new direction, reinventing it through radical reinterpretation, be it lyrically, rhythmically, or in live performance, making the music theirs. And if Jobim got credit for laying the foundation of bossa nova, then the genre was brilliantly reimagined (and, arguably, defined) by the singer/songwriter and guitarist João Gilberto.

João Gilberto and Tom Jobim are parents of style 'Bossa nova', whose guitar and vocal technique deserves. João during his career has released over thirty recordings and special appearances with other artists. This CD is one of the latest study recordings published by the author, in this case directed and produced by Caetano Veloso. The album, which includes ten songs of famous authors such as Tom Jobim or the same Caetano Veloso, is a return of João to their early classics of bossa nova and a tribute to the music of his youth.

At the end of the 60s, with his instrumental and vocal ensembles, Michel Corboz undertook a colossal project: recording an exhaustive collection of the sacred music composed by Monteverdi after he was appointed maestro di cappella of San Marco. This collection is mostly dedicated to the Selva morale but also rare and isolated pieces. It is an essential cornerstone of early music recording history.

A musical manifesto? Pablo Heras-Casado, leading the musicians of the Balthasar Neumann Ensemble into the heart of Monteverdi’s “Moral and Spiritual Forest”, captures the magic of its madrigals, psalm settings, Marian hymns, motets and mass settings collected in the monumental 1640 publication which forms a summation of the composer’s life’s work. His intensive activity as “maestro di cappella” at St Mark’s Basilica in Venice – a veritable haven for the musical avant-garde of his day – is typified by this selection of the choicest gems chosen from the imposing anthology.
