Acclaimed as one of the greatest interpreters of Mozart, Portuguese pianist Maria-João Pires is an artist who combines exquisite stylistic refinement with a serious effort to plumb the intellectual complexities and spiritual depths of music. Refusing to conform to the traditional image of a concert virtuoso, Pires emphasizes the spiritual dimensions of music, always searching for hidden meanings which may elude the analytical performer. This remarkable reverence toward works of music, clearly manifested in her performances of Mozart, was made explicit by her remark that, as a performer, she acts as a channel for the composer's ideas.

Darkly brilliant – and one of Joao Donato's most fantastic records! The set was recorded during Joao's time in America in the mid 60s – cut in New York with lofty backings by Claus Ogerman, in a pillowy soft mode that fits perfectly with Joao's light bossa piano lines, and which has all the hints of sadness and moodiness that often creep into his playing. The complicated approach of the album far surpasses some of Joao's work from Brazil at the same time – and the album's one of the best of its generation, a sublime mix of all elements that still sounds as fresh today as it did in 1965! Titles include 'Amazonas', 'Glass Beads', 'Sugarcane Breeze', 'Vento Do Canavail', 'It Didn't End', and 'O Barquinho'

Joao Maria Pires is nowadays, the supreme female pianist in the sublime art of playing Mozart. Because although she is far from the superior vision of Clara Haskil, for instance, she plays with an artistic conviction that may be noticed from the first bar, her spiritual affinity has joined with an overriding goal to capture with mind and heart the essential nuances of the beloved Salzburg's son. It's not an easy fact she has achieved this envied place. There are superb and majuscule pianist all over the world, but the difference that makes the difference is the quality of sound, between incorporeal and evanescent that remarks the sumptuous lyricism we always find in Mozart.

Six-string wizard Steve Vai, along with his one-time teacher Joe Satriani, set the standard for rock guitar virtuosity in the '80s. Born on June 6, 1960, and raised in Carle Place, New York, Vai became interested in the guitar via such legendary artists as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Alice Cooper as a teenager and, upon starting high school, took lessons with an older player from the school, Joe Satriani.

The Moral and Spiritual Selva (literally "Moral and Spiritual Forest") is a collection of forty sacred works by Monteverdi published in 1641, two years before its demise. The whole collection, and more particularly some pieces, in particular the two Magnificat it contains, have similarities with Vespro della Beata Vergine. According to the dedication of the original edition, the Selva would include plays composed by Monteverdi for the court of the Duke of Mantua, but in reality it is rather a collation of scores for the Cathedral of St. Mark Where Monteverdi was a chapel master from 1613 onwards. The collection thus unites his major sacred works in the form of an artistic quasi testament, considering that at the age of seventy-four, the composer knew that he would soon To bow out. The extraordinary richness of the collection, which alternates genres and formats very diverse, truly represents a "compendium" of the most indispensable; This is the superb British ensemble The Sixteen who holds the bar, and masterfully.
