For the past several years, former Yellowjackets bassist and prolific producer Jimmy Haslip has enjoyed an ongoing working relationship with the Bremen, Germany-based jazz fusion keyboardist and composer Michael Schmidt (aka MSM Schmidt). While Haslip played on Schmidt’s 2007 album Transit and 2009’s Destination, he ended up co-producing 2012’s Evolution, 2015’s Utopia and 2017’s Life. They take their chemistry to new heights on ARCeology: The Music of MSM Schmidt. This dynamic offering finds Haslip and members of his ARC Trio (keyboardist Scott Kinsey and Hungarian drummer Gergö Borlai) joining forces with the GRAMMY Award-winning John Daversa Big Band on greatly expanded versions of previously recorded Schmidt material, along with two brand new pieces composed by Kinsey and Schmidt. The result is a powerhouse collection of polished, swaggering big band fusion along the lines of the Jaco Pastorius Big Band or The Brecker Brothers’ 2003 collaboration with the WDR Big Band Köln on Some Skunk Funk.

John is a distinguished trumpet-player, composer, arranger, producer, bandleader and educator. He is also a multiple Grammy Award winner and nominee and the recipient of many other awards and honors. In addition to his active career as a performer and recording artist he is currently Professor and Chair of Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. Born and raised in Los Angeles, Daversa grew up in a musical household, where he passionately sang and played various instruments from a very young age, eventually picking up the trumpet.

American Dreamers is a large jazz ensemble album from multi-Grammy nominated artist John Daversa and his talented Big Band. It features over 50 young Americans known as 'Dreamers' (DACA recipients) who were brought to the US as children. The musicians perform iconic songs of America such as James Brown's 'Living In America' and John Philip Sousa's 'Stars and Stripes Forever'. It's a jazz album that includes cross genre and cross-cultural influences. Putting aside politics and partisanship, everyone can enjoy the songs of America, and this album has received bipartisan support from prominent voices on both sides of the aisle. Indeed, this production shows what's possible in this country and in the world. It's a celebration of 'togetherness'.
