José Carreras, one of the legendary "Three Tenors," was born Josep Carreras (Josep is his Catalan name, the equivalent of the Castilian Spanish José) in Barcelona in 1946. He began singing at a very early age; family lore holds that he serenaded passengers on a voyage home from Argentina when he was only five. He was inspired by the film biography The Great Caruso, starring Mario Lanza, and is said to have learned each and every aria contained within

Spanish Jose Padilla was seduced by the idea of becoming a DJ while working as a waiter in Barcelona, moving to Ibiza, known as the White Island, in 1975, Padilla soon got involved in the local night club circuit. In 1991 Cafe del Mar gave him the opportunity he was waiting for, producing an acclaimed collection of club/dance records during the 1990s. After issuing his solo debut album called Souvenir, Jose Padila recorded Navigator, an experimental album featuring songs by Seal and N'Dea Davenport, released by DRO East West in 2001.

Born in Shanghai in 1955, Xiaogang Ye is regarded as one of China’s leading contemporary composers. He has written music in a variety of genres, including symphonic and chamber works as well as scores for the stage. Ye has also composed music for films and the two works recorded here are both examples of this. Sichuan Image consists of 29 brief and atmospheric pieces composed to accompany a filmed travelogue of the scenic province in Western China.
