Donatoni makes a speciality of chamber pieces in which the players pursue and provoke each other. The sparks invariably fly, but they don't always illuminate larger perspectives. Etwas ruhiger im Ausdruck is the earliest work included. As the title leads one to expect, it's more restrained than the rest, though characteristic of all five pieces to the extent that fragmented, fugitive activity takes place within clearly defined limits. Even this is not young man's music—Donatoni was born in 1927—but it's subtle and fascinating in its inventive way with soft sonontles.
"The founding of the Ensemble Modern (EM) in 1980 as an initiative of students of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonie pursued the goal of supporting New Music and giving it appropriate performances. Since 1985 the EM, which is democratically organised, has been resident in Frankfurt am Main. It is among the world’s leading ensembles for Contemporary Music…"
Blutengel are a German pop musical group formed by singer Chris Pohl (also of the groups Terminal Choice, Tumor, and Miss Construction and the owner of the Fear Section label) after he had to leave Seelenkrank due to contractual and legal problems. The lyrics are written primarily in German and English and are presented with male and female vocals. The themes of the songs usually centre around themes common in Gothic fiction such as love, vampirism, sexual fetishism, death, and immortality. The band calls their musical style dark pop…
"…Im Klang…," the composition originally written for accordion, makes its recorded debut here in two versions. They are separated by "Klavierstuck '87," performed by the truly gifted Marianne Schroeder. The reason for the two performances is a mechanical one: When Stiebler was going over the score with Teodoro Anzellotti, Anzellotti noted that the accordion (though certainly capable of playing everything) was not capable of making all of it audible – hence the work for organ as well…
Since January 2007 the Stockhausen-Verlag is releasing Text-CDs of a new series: lectures which Stockhausen has given since 1952. The edition is limited to 300 copies per release. He wrote and spoke these lectures in German. Most of them are supplemented with musical examples.
This album is marked by the interaction between John Lee Hooker and his guitar-playing cousin Earl. Earl, who succumbed to illness in 1970, was a fine bluesman in his own right, possessing a formidable slide technique. Many are unaware that the two often performed together, and the band that accompanies John Lee here also backed Earl frequently. The opening cut, then, a slow 12-bar number called "The Hookers" is not about ladies of the evening, but rather about the gentlemen in question.
Heard here less than a year before his death, Earl still sounds frisky and versatile, often utilizing a funky wah-wah style without ever descending into the psychedelic excesses that plagued so many late-'60s electric blues albums…
Of the many second- and third-tier composers of the early and middle German Baroque, Johann Philipp Förtsch (1652–1732) ranks among the more obscure, though in his case it is due not to the quality of his music but to the fact that for him music became an Read more Kapellmeister of Schleswig in1680 by one of the opera’s cofounders, Duke Christian Albrecht of Holstein-Gottorf. The Duke was embroiled in political conflicts with neighboring Denmark, and was forced to flee to Hamburg in 1683, at which point Förtsch resumed his medical practice, obtaining a licentiate from the University of Kiel and setting up a practice in Husum.
