Mantua – cultural centre of the 17th century: Claudio Monteverdi created his first operas and madrigals here, preparing the ground for the works of Giovanni Battista Fontana and Angelo Notari. Julia Fritz and her ensemble have reinterpreted their pieces in the church of Santa Barbara in Mantua, presenting an exciting panorama of musical practices at the time.

It is enriching to have both early music and contemporary works on your lectern. By imagining that early music is new, we free ourselves from traditions and discover current ideas and renewed meaning. Assuming that the new music is old, a certain reverence sets in as well as a trust in the composer and a feeling of devotion to him.

Having completed her studies at the St Petersburg Conservatory and then at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin under Tamara Novichenko and Anna Samouil, Julia Muzychenko-Greenhalgh won Second Prize at the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition in Barcelona.

Australian brother and sister folk/blues team Angus and Julia Stone had last recorded together four years before this 2014 self-titled album was conceived. Even though their last album was a number one hit in Australia, the siblings went their separate ways after its release until they were enticed to reunite at the request of American producer Rick Rubin. The album was recorded over a six month period at Rubin's studio in Malibu, California. Not only did they agree to work together again, they wrote songs together for the first time in their careers.

This recording of Verdi’s Messa da Requiem – an “opera in ecclestiastical robes”, as conductor Hans von Bülow called it – was recorded in October 1980 at Stiftskirche Herzogenburg with Julia Varady, Alexandrina Milcheva, Alberto Cupido, Nicola Ghiuselev, ORF Choir and ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Leif Segerstam.

This album is a collection of songs written between 2020 and 2024 in Beirut. I wanted to capture them the way they were written by keeping the rawness and fragility intact, like the late-night voice memos I send to my bandmates as soon as I have a first draft of a song.
