Logan Kane, one of jazz’s most sought-after young bassists and a prominent figure in LA’s thriving creative music scene, is proud to present Floor Plans, his first recording at the helm of an acoustic jazz quintet. Kane’s first full-length, NOPE,SCIENCE (2020), showcased his adventurous writing for nonet, while Planet Mirrors (2021) was electronic, catchy, riotously inventive, with Kane playing all instruments and singing (in the company of several guests). On Floor Plans, Kane is heard mainly on upright bass, the instrument he plays extensively as a sideman with the likes of Steve Lehman, Ari Hoenig, Becca Stevens, Justin Brown, Edward Simon and Joel Ross, to name a few. The music is imposingly dense and ambitious, with rhythmic precision and soaringly complex melodic arcs, every moment of it fired by the extraordinary players in Kane’s band.

Matt Kane is a jazz drummer, composer, bandleader, and educator who, like his literary hero, Mark Twain, grew up surrounded by corn fields in Hannibal, Missouri. He cut his teeth in the Kansas City jazz scene before heading to New York City eight years later where his tenacity led him into another respectable scene. Song Poems is his fifth album featuring all original compositions and features brilliant pianist Yayoi Ikawa and legendary bassist Steve LaSpina. It features a wide swath of rhythm and melody bound together in Kane’s signature Americana sound. The songs are singable, relatable, and danceable, appealing to both bonafide jazz fans and universal music lovers.

A deeply personal record, Miles returned to Liverpool to work on the album, finding himself reflecting on his journey.

During the latter half of the 1980s, a wave of alternative artists began to explore a gentler, more ethereal sound, bringing a dream-like aesthetic to the rock and pop idiom. Taking its lead from the UK (and the 4AD label in particular), this refined approach soon spread, particularly to the United States, slowly picking up the moniker “dream pop” – a catch-all term rather than a genre within itself.
Curated by the same team as our successful ‘Still In A Dream’ 2016 shoegaze set, ‘Cherry Stars Collide’ explores that sound as it emerged in the mid-80s and proceeded to define a less grounded, more thoughtful approach to musical expression than was offered elsewhere. Fusing and blending with other genres along the way. – from the guitar driven shoegaze movement and proto-Britpop to the post ‘C-86’ generation and the nascent leftfield clubbing scene – that sound both drew in artists already operating elsewhere and inspired new artists to embark their own journey.
