Genesis had just released what was to become their best-selling album, Invisible Touch, a few months prior to this remarkable concert was performed at the Forum, in Los Angeles, on October 15th 1986. Having moved into a more pop-oriented direction in the early '80s, Genesis was now attracting even more new fans, particularly MTV viewers who enjoyed their sometimes a little silly, but often inventive videos. At the same time, they held onto a loyal fan base that stretched back to their days as an art rock band. • Riding this momentum, Genesis played five consecutive nights at the Forum in October of ‘86. This excellent recording was made on Wednesday, the third night of the run. There's a little tension early in the show when lead singer Phil Collins tells the crowd they'll be playing some new songs. Some members of the audience boo, though some applaud. Phil then says they may play a few old tunes as well, and the audience roars. This little dialogue tellingly reflects the conflict between the fans of the new poppier style, and those who preferred the older, more progressive rock sound. Both fan groups were there in full force at this show. • The band had an incredibly complex, colourful, and dynamic light show, featuring the most Vari-lites ever used in a lighting rig. Vari-lites are small lights that can change direction and colour very quickly, and Genesis was the first band to use them in 1981.

Fred Kaz is perhaps most widely known as the longtime musical director for The Second City, where his extraordinary musical talents were for almost 30 years utilized to accent, illustrate and direct the onstage work of the casts of improvisational actors, a considerable number of whom were destined to become luminaries of stage and screen today.

"Perfect Timing" is a 1981 album by British singer Kiki Dee. The album marked a brief comeback for the singer, led by the top 20 single "Star". It was her only album on Ariola Records and reached #47 on the UK album charts. The title track was also released, peaking at #66. Two further singles were released; "Midnight Flyer" and "Loving You is Sweeter Than Ever" (a duet with Elton John). The album was produced by Pip Williams. The album was re-released in 2008 on Compact disc with four bonus tracks.

One of our favorite all-time records, and a real lost album on Blue Note! Eddie Gale leads this group of righteous singers and musicians through five fantastic tracks of soulful chanting and hard jazz playing that never goes too far out, but always threatens to break free of its own chains – soaring to the skies on wings of freedom and spirituality! Gale's trumpet rings hard and loud, and the vocal arrangements never verge on sentimentality, but manage to convey a ton of soul with an incredibly righteous approach that's never been duplicated again! Imagine Donald Byrd's vocal group albums recorded for Strata East – or a hipper version of Billy Harper's Capra Black – and you've only got part of the picture! Titles include "The Rain", "Fulton Street", "The Coming Of Gwilu", and "A Walk With Thee".

Since the mid-2000s, British pianist, composer, Alexander Hawkins (Evan Parker, Chicago/London Underground) has become a force to be reckoned with, largely within Europe's exploratory progressive jazz and improvising circles. As a collaborator and solo artist, the pianist transmits a distinctive line of attack, where melody and free-form extrapolations enjoy a happy coexistence. On this studio set, he teams with notable performance artist, abstract vocalist and fellow Brit, Elaine Mitchener (Phil Minton, George Lewis) for a semi-structured set highlighted by the quartet's deconstruction of some standards and free-jazz sax icon Archie Shepp's, "Blasé."

Features 24 bit digital remastering. Comes with a description. An unusual little record – a set that's a bit "fake" in its pedigree, but which still comes across with some wonderfully vivid results! Fred Kaz is a Chicago pianist, but he works here on a set of original compositions based on his readings on Near Eastern cultures – dubbed by Fred as "Turkish experiments" in the liner notes – and a compelling blend of Eastern modes and modern jazz piano – maybe not as all-out as later experiments of the type on MPS/Saba, but still pretty darn great!

Coleman Hawkins was the first important tenor saxophonist and he remains one of the greatest of all time. A consistently modern improviser whose knowledge of chords and harmonies was encyclopedic, Hawkins had a 40-year prime (1925-1965) during which he could hold his own with any competitor…

The aesthetic and cultural merits of Eddie Gale's Ghetto Music cannot be overstated. That it is one of the most obscure recordings in Blue Note's catalog – paid for out of label co-founder Francis Wolff's own pocket – should tell us something. This is an apocryphal album, one that seamlessly blends the new jazz of the '60s – Gale was a member of the Sun Ra Arkestra before and after these sides, and played on Cecil Taylor's Blue Note debut, Unit Structures – with gospel, soul, and the blues. Gale's sextet included two bass players and two drummers – in 1968 – as well as a chorus of 11 voices, male and female.

Hawkins is also notable for his role as a talent scout and mentor of musicians he recruited for his band the Hawks. Roy Buchanan was an early Hawks guitarist on the song "Who Do You Love". The most successful example were the musicians who left him to form The Band. Other musicians Hawkins had recruited went on to form Robbie Lane and the Disciples,[4] Janis Joplin's Full Tilt Boogie Band,[5] Crowbar, Bearfoot, and Skylark.

The great Hawkins (who debuted on records 40 years earlier) gets to stretch out on this live outing by his 1962 quartet (which also features pianist Tommy Flanagan). This CD, which as a former LP had lengthy versions of "All the Things You Are," "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho" "Mack the Knife" and "Talk of the Town," is augmented by previously unreleased versions of "Bean and the Boys" and "If I Had You," all of which show that Coleman Hawkins in his late 50s was still a powerful force.
